Well, where to start. Maybe at the end which showed Red's lack of coaching acumen. Positives were that the kids played ok. Donnie Davis Choppa Taylor Dry Rub showed some flashes of being a team. Not enough to win especially on the defensive side of the ball which remains a nightmare. But there was a pulse. Coaching remains a mystery. Red is floundering searching not really sure what he is doing or attempting with some of his substitutions as they simply have not made any sense at all. Highlight was Davis. He plays hard and is a plus player. Thought the last foul on him was horrible and might have cost us the game. Carlos wasn't horrible. Still, he doesn't bring much to the table and I'm not sure why he plays as much as he does. Something about ball handling skills which I don't see. Bell please don't get me banned but i feel for the kid. He is a mental wreck and might want to get some help over Christmas break as he is a shell of himself although his one move to the hoop when he dished was nice. Finally, if JJ plays, we win so there is that.
Guys the team and coaching is flawed. We are not a good team, and we are not going to become a good team.
As I posted before Red needs to focus on the future. Play the kids that are back next year. Don't worry about this season as it is already toast.
Last point. Red will get a third year. He won 20 games last year and did better than anyone expected. He has our best recruiting class in over a decade signed. Choppa and Donnie are excellent, and I believe both will be back. Most importantly Melo is going to very much involved in the team starting next year and we can't lose that. So, sit back and enjoy some dysfunctional basketball because better days are ahead next season. The good news is we can't get any worse.
Go Orange.

I actually thought we played pretty good D EXCEPT for the couple of times we stuck our nose out in front and could not get a stop to potentially widen the lead. However, that is a big EXCEPT.

I thought Carlos stepped up a bit and had a solid game - 8 points, 7 dimes, and 2 steals - not great maybe, but acceptable. It wasnt his fault we lost.

I am loving the progress of Freeman. 20 and 11 works for me.

Davis also played well and took over the game in some short stretches.

My biggest criticism of Red is that he needs to start Choppa and get him at least 30 MPG. Yeah, he looked a bit raw for most of the game, but he stepped up big at the end and IMHO he is the non-starter that CLEARLY has the most upside. Improvement has to come from somewhere, and this is the most likely place.

Good to see Westry get his feet wet, but that was about it. We will see if he is able to evolve over the next ten games or so after his long layoff.

Sorry, I dont see what Taylor brings to the table and when Cuffe was out there he looked identical to me. They are the statless twinsees.

Not a good game from Eddie - gotta do better than 5 & 5 - not to mention FOUR TOs. That is unacceptable for a guy who should be bullying everybody else on the court.

Bottom line though - it is no longer possible to win a game at this level with ZERO treys. I am actually amazed it stayed that close. Too much blame on Red - he cant shoot for them (or does he by chance have a year of eligibility left ?)

Re: playing the kids that will be back next year. With the NIL and today's portal free-for-all, does any coach have any idea which kids might even be back next year?

Carlos was not bad today. I’ll take 8 points, seven assists and 2 steals all day long. He kept his man in front today. He created some wide open threes that guys missed. We’re getting nothing from our other two wings. Bell, Taylor and Moore did nothing. Taylor had too many defensive breakdowns today to consider he played ok. He gave up huge threes at terrible times. His last runner he took was a horrible shot. Red has to run some sets specifically to get shots for Bell and Moore. They are too easy to take out of the game.
Carolina is struggling with GT late in the game at home. 59-55.

Just can't leave their one great shooter open all day when the game was on the line. We did that. It's one thing to be bad. It's another to be dumb.
Ok you went there. I know Red is smart. Dino is smart as well, but he was a horrible decision maker under duress. Choked and or didn't process quickly enough for real time in game decisions. Watching the games this year I get the sense that Red is a step behind the action. I hope he doesn't have the same procrastination issues that Dino suffers from.

Can we please stop saying winning 20 games means something? With 20 wins last year, were a bubble NIT team. Thats not acceptable.

Well there’s coming beat downs from Gtown (board will have to be locked at tip) and Maryland. So yes it will get worse
Really like Hoyas freshman center Thomas Sorber. Wish we had gotten him. I have an acquaintance who told me that they would get real talent this year, not accept another season ever with single digit wins like the last few years because they have a big $ war chest and Cooley.

It means more than you know. Last year's team was a cluster . Jim left Red with a bag of S
He not only won 20 games he did so while protecting the program from a major mess. If you had a clue to the situation, he was left by JB you would realize why he gets next year

20 wins today is like 15 twenty yrs ago. I was astounded that we had a winning record last year but it still was sub par

Also please enlighten us to why he should get an extra year. This program is in steep decline and I would think us season ticket holders who spend a lot of money should be clued in to why we should stay loyal.

Because it takes time to rebuild the dumpster fire he was left with. Do you realize how messed up the team was last season.

Not really, can you elaborate

There is a scene in the movie one flew over the cuckoo nest. They are on a boat. If you haven't seen the movie it's excellent. Or just watch that one scene and you will understand last year's teams issues.

I like Red but I do wonder if he is enough of an Alpha to control this team or is it he just struggles to teach and them understand and actually do what he asks?

The worst case scenario is this job is over his head and to be honest basically none of Boeheims assistants have done well as HC's.

One was there for the taking. Just needed to figure out how to move winged foot to Syracuse

I didn't hate Carlos yesterday. He got in the lane and found people cutting a lot. We need that because not many guys are creating for themselves. He just needs to stop thinking he can ever get a shot off in the paint without it getting blocked.

We still lack interior presence. I like Lampkin's skills but he moves like Patrick Ewing... the current Ewing, not the young one we despised. Davis is good but short. Freeman is plenty tall, athletic, and skilled, but he's weak. During the Tennessee game when they said they had 7 offensive rebounds for 12 second half points and we had 0, and that was just the first half, that's all I needed to hear.

With JJ out and Bell struggling, we have no shooting.

It's really a wonder that we even had a chance to win that game. How bad is Notre Dame that we were even in it?

If I recall Judahs name was mentioned at one point last year.

JC is astronomically bad. He had an ok day yesterday, but I’m pretty sure that was by design from ND.

His metrics, all of them, are so bad he shouldn’t be on our roster, let alone our rotation, forget even starting.

PER (6.0), TS% (34.2%), eFG% (32.6%) and BPM -3.3) are monumentally bad for a P4 starter.

You are right about Eddie, but it’s just more proof giving him all that money was insane. He has never been in shape with us. He is now injured. He is toast outside of a five minute bursts.

Chris Bell has started 70 games at Syracuse. 70. We are 41-29 in those 70 games. We haven’t made the tournament. Chris Bell has never finished, nor currently, has a PER over 15.0, which equates to an average player (to be fair, he was 14.9 last year). We have a below average player that has started 70 games.

One more note about JC, his GmScr (advanced scoring that Hollinger made for evaluations) for yesterday’s game had JC at 9.1. Donnie Freeman’s was 17.7.

This team is a mess from construction, to strategy to execution.

Please let's be honest about our record last year. We won 19 games. The NCAA does not count DII teams -- selection committee had our record at 19 wins. That's a fact. Just like Exhibitions against DII games don't count, neither do DII games in Hawaii.

He was 10-10 in a very weak ACC, 0-1 in ACC tournament, and didn't make the NCAA tournament.

Still, that's a decent first year and I had high hopes for him. I'm a fan of his and badly wanted him to succeed. But we cannot use last year as an excuse -- we need to believe what we're seeing right now.

Also, we need to consider how we got 19 wins last year. He almost went into the season with the same roster with no Judah (almost went pro after freshman year). If that happened, I bet that 19 is more like a 14. We won games by Judah dribbling for 20 seconds and then getting an iso bucket or foul. That doesn't take world class coaching. If anything, it's a Band-Aid over a bad scheme.

Because it takes time to rebuild the dumpster fire he was left with. Do you realize how messed up the team was last season.
Nobody made him keep all those kids around that made it a mess.

Far lesser programs with far less money have completely flipped rosters in one offseason and won the all meaningful 20 games. And if he did completely turn over the roster and went 14-17 but came out and said "Hey it was a mess and I had to clean the mess but now we are building in the right direction" everyone with a brain would have been onboard.

I get the thought process but I think it is a lame excuse in modern CBB.
