Myron Medcalf thinks we should be concerned

In 2016-2017 we had a team that was terrible at defense, but scored because we had 4 shooters on the floor at once. We still missed the tournament and the offense was tough to watch, often bailed out by White.

So what is the answer?

With shooters- bad offense. Without shooters- bad offense.

I think we’ve run the same offense since Flynn was here with little change unfortunately.

2010 would be favored according to KenPom.
I personally enjoy 2010 more because we blew a lot of teams out a lot more than we did in 2012 but I just think that the depth and talent of 2012 would win a 7 game series against that 2010 team.
Even though I think the 2010 team was more balanced offensively inside and outside and just played tremendous team basketball. I still remember the 2010 game at the dome against Georgetown on big Monday we fell behind like 14-0 and won the game by like 20 points.

You may be onto something here.

The only time our offense seemed to be legit is when we had an NBA point guard or Scoop Jardine.

We actually need a talented point guard to succeed.

Without doing the math, there probably isn’t a single relatively big name school that’s been on the bubble so many times in 13 years.
Would you rather be Indiana over the same time period?

it has become rather routine lately to watch sunday not to see where we're playing but if we're in.

I, for one, am ready to move on. The offense is staid and boring, to the point of being unwatchable.
Recruiting is pedestrian.

We've actually been a bubble team for 8 of the last 14 years, dating back to 2006.

2006: Probably out until beating UCONN in Big East Quarters
2007: Just missed
2008: Just missed
2015: Probably out prior to self-imposed ban
2016: Just made it (10 seed but many thought that was generous)
2017: Just missed
2018: Just made it (last team in)
2019: Probably on the bubble (as of 12/16/18)

Good summary. What is so strange is (without looking it up) it is possible Syracuse has had its best NCAA tournament win percentage of any 14 year period during that same window.

Small sample size and single elimination tournaments are unpredictable?

The issue I have noticed recently is that we have 1 type of guy and everyone is like that. A few years ago it was all shooters. This year and others it’s all iso guys that like to get to the basket.

No, I am very happy being a Syracuse fan in any case.

But I dont give a freakin rats hoot about Myron Medcalf saying we own property on the bubble. Thats the only point.

weihniau (pronounced we know ) is hawaiian for sorry we can't make the big luau.

Nonsense. Next year's class is currently ranked 25th. That's pedestrian? This year's class was even higher than that...until Bazley decided to intern at New Balance.

09-10 was our best team ever and I stand by that. The 7 players on that squad that played significant minutes is the best top 7 we have ever had and the results showed it. What a team. Just looked at the stats from that team... ridiculous balance. Had it all.

but did that team have "the guy"?

Until we get some more fast/explosive guards to run all this dribble-drive, snipers, and a big who can score, it will be an uphill battle on offense and probably consistent bubble material, IMO. They gotta go get a Grad Transfer big or something for next season if we strike out on Carrigan/Wahab/Stewart.

Syracuse ... America's bubble team.
Sad but apparently true. Another year back on the bubble.

Maybe this kid would be worth the punt?

Just verbally committed to Santa Clara - from the Toronto suburbs... we'd be much closer to home for him... #39 Center in class of 2019 according to 2-4-7...

Maybe this is the year we put up a good conference record and/or deep, deep conference tourney run. I’m not automatically putting us on the bubble yet.

We need a new offense unless we have a Johnny Flynn, Scoop Jardine, or MCW. smh.

I actually thought about this some more and we had a terrible offense McNamara's senior year as well. It was basically what we have now with him being Battle, Devo being Hughes, and Nichols Brissett. High Screen and roll with Watkins/Roberts providing little in the form of an offensive presence and that was with the GREAT big man coach Bernie Fine.

You're right, except Chukwu makes Roberts and Watkins look like Wilt and Russell.

I think we need an explosive wing more than anything. Helps our weak side rebounding on D too. Melo and Wes are obviously the best examples but CJ would also work now.
