Nait George in the portal

He made a sickening amount of money this year
Which pisses me off. Waste of money. This is why it’s so important to really evaluate these players drive to win and mentality. So frustrating to think that we could have used it this year or other players last year. This is why we need a nil buyout rule

Among other things, NG was absolutely atrocious running the fast break. Just awful
My take on our fast breaks with NG was that we looked like the harlem globetrotters against those 350 net teams and then thought that would just work on real teams through the season.

Honestly you don't even have to evaluate some of the players as much as you think. George, Donnie and JJ ate up a huge chunk of our budget. Every coach they played for have now been fired. ND-Brey, GT-Stoudamire, Autry. 3 inept coaches that won't ever be head coaches again.

We need to start getting players that played for winning coaches and therefore on winning teams. Even if it's at a midmajor or even lower levels if its the right fit. We need to stop hoping the best or "talented" player on a 14-18 team is going to somehow be the man in CNY.

Definitely no guarantees. BUT. I’d be curious to know how we vetted him. Did he love to compete? Did he hate losing more than he liked winning? Clearly the answer is no, and if I was coach, clearly would not have been a culture fit.

I think Gerry will do a better job checking under the hood.

I was one of the few on the board who didn't want NAIT to begin with. I don't think he is good at all and didn't think he was good before he got here.
Well, after Juan Carlos and George having his Sophmore season at Georgia Tech, there was a lot of anticipation that Syracuse had the point guard they needed. Unfortunately, there was a lot of disappointment with George as a point guard. Kind of wished they gave Fennel a chance to run the point after George did not deliver.

Dalton Knecht team was like 12-20 before transferring to TN

Yes - the one in a million rainbow unicorn is the example we should strive towards.

I totally get why we thought Nait would excel here -
He’d “proven” himself by leading the ACC in assists the prior season.

But it turned out to be empty calories -
most of his stats were complied against cream puffs and in garbage time during blowouts,
so - not really winning basketball.

Juan Carlos made NAIT look good, but there were a lot of issues with NAIT's game before he came. But comparing someone to Carlos, it's not hard to get excited about the incoming player.

He improved throughout the season but struggled to run our so-called offense. Not sure if it was Nait’s limitations or Red’s poor system. Probably a combination. Can we get a high level PG to replace him? Hope so!
We desperately need a point guard aggressive and good on defense. Nate is too slow.

Agreed but it’s fools errand to think solid & competitive guys can’t be found on poor teams. For one, see Sadiq, though I’m not as high on him as others are here.

What do you think his end of year percentage was on completed alleyoops?

20%?

Ive never seen a player given so much leeway to just throw the ball to the other team with no consequences.

He should just join the And1 mix tape tour.

at the time everyone felt it was a great pick up. he was ranked anywhere from the #1 to #5 best available pg in the portal. we overpaid just to get him. but it was lauded by analysts and fans alike.
And had to outbid UNC

It's amazing how many of our board "analysts" predicted George's limitations in Red's system and knew the NIL outlay would be wasted.

I don’t think this is the example to use when he went to play for a Hall of Fame coach in Barnes and a program that has been winning consistently. We have neither.

True. I can’t remember what poster here said it or maybe somewhere else but they knew GT folks that were not so high on the Nate George hype.

Probably the two worst PG’s in SU history.
