Evaluating a player based only on the "system" he played in college, is like giving a new graduate the keys to your company, because he got a 3.5 gpa.
Companies have training programs for a reason, to acclimate a new employee and have them ready to perform at the next level.
The fact that we've had perennial 1st Round picks these last few years, is more than enough proof that the pros assess talent at a different level. If the player is good and shows "potential", just like in any business they'll be hired and then trained up.

All those first-round picks wasted on high school kids years back (example: Kwame Brown) -- how worthless was watching them play defense in high school? Yet, Kobe (another high-school pick) was a terrific on-ball defender. Point is, as Donna points out, the NBA execs have to do their job. It's called evaluation.

Unfortunately, it doesn't have to be accurate as far as the NBA is concerned...as long as the 18-year old recruit believes it to be true. And other teams are playing it up.
