I know. It's not a weak draft. But Grant hasn't impressed me the last two games against smaller, weaker opponents. It's a long season. Let's see how he's playing in January.
I say let's get all crazy here and see how he's playing in March.

Grant is a legit NBA athlete who could contribute off the bench for playoff teams now. He doesn't need to impress anyone from the pros- they already have a sense of how good he could be in a couple of years.

That is a crazy assumption.

Grant is a superior athlete at the college level. There are lots of great athletes at the next level. He needs to develop a small forward's game if he is to succeed in the NBA. I hope that means he stays another year and takes over for CJ at the starting SF position. Of course, if he does not develop as much as we expect and hope, his draft stock may fall. So perhaps he does go after this year since they will be drafting more on potential than actual performance at the SF position.

remember, he missed a chunk of his summer with mono. his draft position is based on how he looked last season with a projection toward improvement this year, but his actual performance might lag the projection for a few weeks because he is catching up a little bit

Folks, the sooner you accept that Grant is gone after this year, the easier it will be in April. I heard last year that a scout from the Spurs said Grant was the guy that was the best NBA prospect on the Cuse team.
I agree that Grant's game needs to develop, but his potential is too appealing to NBA teams, and he's a better athlete than I think some are giving him credit for. He could hang athletically (not skill-wise) with most NBA 3s right now.

If your names not Shaq or Dwight Howard and you miss over 40% of your free throws? I got news for ya.

I think he's a great athlete. But his ballhandling skills are average, his jumper is inconsistent and he's not a good free throw shooter. He's a small forward in the NBA, so that part of his game needs to improve.

That is the NBA.

I agree. My comment was in response to the statement he could contribute RIGHT NOW for NBA teams. I disagree there, or perhaps we have different definitions of contribute.

However, he will develop throughout the year probably more than anyone on this SU team, imo.

Christ it's the whole "MCW isn't ready, he's not absolutely flat out dominating the college game," again.

Newsflash, that isn't how it works. Grant doesn't need to drop 20 and 10 a game to look impressive.

My definition of contribute is that he'd be part of the bench rotation for playoff teams right now. On offense, he'd be told to stand in the corner and crash the offensive glass, but he'd be able to help defensively and rebounding right now.

MCW was the best player on the floor many games last year, with a NBA body type. Grant hasnt been the best player on his team with a non nba body type. Wesley plays the same position and was a better athlete than grant and has struggled to get on the floor with a much better shot.

A couple things:
1. CJ has to show that he can handle the ball if he wants to be a 1st rounder. I just can't see a team drafting a SF that hasn't proven to be a defensive force, can't handle the ball, and can't pass.
2. Grant has already slipped down that mock draft. He'll continue slipping if he continues to not show any improvement from last year.
3. Are we sure Grant is a SF at the next level? IMO, he has the size/wingspan to be a face-up 4 if he gets stronger.

dislike your assessment on all 3 . Beat the dead horse (CJ) if you must, but give Jerami a break. It's only been 3 games.

I don't think saying that Jerami needs to show improvement is being harsh at all. That's reality. Same thing happened with McAdoo at UNC. Showed a lot of promise in limited minutes as a freshman, and then his stock took a bit each year after. If you don't show improvement, you're going to slip. He has a lot of time left to show improvement, and I think he has it in him. But he can't play the way he has so far this year and expect his stock not to take a hit.

Guys we should all know how this works by now. Grant can the bed all season and he is still going in the first round. The NBA barely cares about college prodction
