NCAA 1st Round Games for Thurs March 16

Bama could face round 2 and 3 matchups with WVU and UVA, two teams that can muck the game up and give the Tide some problems

While you won't catch me betting on the MWC against the spread in any games in the first round, or picking any of their teams, it should be noted that Nevada is the worst of the bunch. So they might not represent all the MWC.. or they might.

Nevada started well this year, and then backed into the tournament really struggling
They had lost their last 3 games before the tourney to teams that were neither NCAA or NIT level.
They essentially built their resume before January 31st, and then went backwards from there.

Going with the better "offensive efficiency" team theory today (if one team is clearly more offensive centric) as I started 3-1 with it so far in the tourney. Of course the one game I loss was Nevada -- should have been a big enough counter to stop from the trend.

Not every game has much of a gap in terms of offence vs defence centric, but every matchup in this tournament so far has had a team that is clearly more oriented offensively. That being said, probsably won't touch Iowa.

So today I have went with.
West Virginia (-2.5)
Furman +5.5
Missouri +1.0

Went big on Missouri of course.

Didn't go any further than that for now, because looks like it could be 3-3 shortly!

Another trend from the last few years.

The conferences that are the best during the season (most seeds / highest seeds) tend to struggle against the line vs the P6 conferences that struggled during the season (i.e OOC).

As I said many times due to the multiplier effect of conference play the system (seeds and predictive systems) does tend to reward top power conferences a bit too much, and tends to punish the lower tier power conferences a bit too much.

While the B12 is certainly the best conference, doesn't necessarily mean they are better when they are facing an equal team.

Last 2 years the two conferences that did the best P12 and ACC were not good in regular season.

So basically if you have
P12/ACC (and maybe BE) vs B10/SEC/B12 matchup, take the former group.

And this will probably all blow up in my face.

3 guys from West Virginia tipping the ball away from each other (when one could have easily grabbed it), ultimately tipping it to Maryland.

4 games on, 4 games at commercial break.
My annual reminder how commercial times / breaks are out of control during NCAA tournament games.

Upset Alert!!!! I kid.

That being said
Howard 20
Kansas 19

Furman takes the lead against Virginia.
Good set of games to start the tournament competition wise.

WVU plays cheating defense and hopes the refs don't call it. Luckily the refs called it today and WVU got exposed.
They want to give WVU the ball there is no way you can overturn out of bounds if you review it for that long.

I like Bennett, but their style invites the upset possibility.
I loved his Washington State teams with Robbie Cowgill, Derek Lowe, and Klay.

Can't stand being in a conference with them and playing them twice per year. I feel the same way about them I do Uconn. Wish they hadn't won that title .

Furman getting sloppy down the stretch (come on at least get the +5.5 cover)
Virginia also tough D on the perimter.
