Has there ever been a year where the state of North Carolina is not one of the hosts?

I'm not a geography major but shouldn't NC be considered in the South and not the East.

Albany applied for both years, Mens and Women's, but got shut out. It's unfortunate. They have always done a good job.

Without Albany 2003 might not have been so magic. Both games
there were a loud house of SU fans. Probably my best SU memory.

I think there was one year in I want to say the 2000s. Too lazy to look it up.

Well there was one year they did not have one site during the NCAA tournament -- they had two!

Will Syracuse ever host again? We hosted several East regional finals but nothing in recent years. Such a bummer.

Hotels are always a concern. Losing 2 of them recently does not help. Hopefully they will be replaced soon with nicer, more modern buildings.

I know the NCAA had concerns over the bench seating in the dome as well. That issue has been addressed.

With Micron coming, I expect the hotel issue will be put to bed in a couple years. We won’t have enough to host a men’s final four but we will have enough to host - men’s regional.

And I think we will have enough to host a women’s regional and maybe even a women’s final four.

Pretty sure that is a long term goal for SU.

The impact on the community and missed opportunities bc of hotels is ridiculous. By the time the city catches up to anything, we are already behind. I miss the regionals but miss the economic impact more for our great city and community

There isn’t demand for more hotels in Syracuse. Besides the state fair and a couple weekend games/concerts a year it’s easy to get a hotel room in the area under per diem. Hotels aren’t going to come until there is demand. Hopefully Micron is that demand like Tomcat mentioned. They certainly aren’t going to come on the off chance we score some regional games once or twice a decade.

I know the county has an rfp out for a new hotel next to the Everson. They want at least 200 rooms. This one would replace the Crown Plaza.

Hart’s redevelopment of Great Northern Mall includes plans for 7 hotels. That might be a little ambitious but with all the development coming to Clay and Route 31, I think at least one major hotel will be built in the area.

A big question to me is whether a hotel is built to replace the Sheraton near SU. SU alone generates a lot of demand for hotel rooms. With AC and individual seating, SU is primed to host far more concerts and other events (monster trucks, etc). Pretty sure Sheraton made a lot of money and they or someone else would like another shot at this.

Pretty sure SU is feeling a lot of heat from alums, businesses it works with, etc. now that the hotel is gone. I think it is inevitable that a major hotel is built close to SU and expect it to happen in the next 5 years.

There is no question this is a tough time to build. Interest rates are really high. Construction costs are really high.

The county understands this and is trying to work with developers. They have an initiative seeded with $8 million to encourage hotel development.

Hopefully interest rates drop, construction costs become more reasonable and demand for hotel rooms shows strong growth in the next few years. I believe all this will happen.

And full service hotels that the NCAA requires are not in demand at all here.

The last time we hosted a regional was 2010. Huggy Bear vs Pay Pal Cal.

Since the Dome lacks enough media space to accommodate the throngs of journos, they brought out the old blue curtain and restricted access to the back half of the Dome to just media types.

Attendance was a little more than 22,000.

For that size crowd, the NCAA seems to prefer using NBA/NHL arenas in major cities.

Maybe someday...
