I don't think there has ever been a P6 school that only got into the tournament by winning their conference tournament and then made the final 4. (in the 64+ era)

It's rare for schools to to even get in the tournament that way in the P6 (although we had two this year)

There has been…..NC State in 83. Technically 48 teams in the tournament, but they had to win 6 games to win it all. They wouldn’t have gotten in if they didn’t win that ACCT that year.
