NCAA Elite Eight Games Thread for Sat Mar 28

I know it’s Duke and he gets paid millions of dollars to coach kids putting a ball in a basket but I still felt terrible for Scheyer when they showed the video of his facial expression after that steal and three.

I was rooting for Duke. Hate UConn. But when you put the game in the hands of freshman... they are freshman.

You have to be vigilant there as a coach. He also went home with a timeout in his pocket. I get why Sarr made that pass, it was still the single bonus and he can't shoot FTs. Not sure why Sarr was even in the game, tbh.

It was easy for people to hate Cal. He seemed like a greasy salesman. But K/Scheyer haven't won since 2015 with getting the top end talent over and over again and you can argue Duke's flameouts are worse than what Cal dealt with at UK.

Duke had three losses this year. One was like with less than five seconds left and the other two with less than a second.

Yes we are.
Not before UConn probably wins 3 more including this year. Just insane, insane stuff.

Teams really can’t beat this team in March? Just makes little sense. And they had Florida on the ropes late last year too!

If they win again, and I wouldn’t bet against it despite UM and AZ being better in theory, they’ll have the best stretch since UCLA with goddamn John Wooden.

Again— it’s insane!

I’ve seen this shot 100x again. Just absolutely ridiculous how that happened.

So sick of seeing teams I hate all over social media.

We are never winning a title again, man.
It's been rough, extremely rough. But the guy that rises to the moment when things seem impossible is now our Head Coach. It's not going to be easy and there is no skipping parts of the process to get back there (throwing money into it doesn't mean it will translate to success immediately, it certainly is apart of the process). Accepting that this isn't going to be easy is the first step into the process of truly getting back there. I don't know how many in the fan base or program realize how hard it's going to be getting back there, it doesn't mean that we can't. We will, but we won't be starting that process until we accept that we can't take shortcuts getting there and we need to enjoy each step in the process getting back to that stage. The quicker acceptance happens amongst everyone, the quicker we will see the results we're dreaming about.

Took an absolutely insane amount of luck for them to win last night. The luck will run out.

UConn under Hurley is relentless. It’s been their calling card since he took over. It’s the one thing there is not another program that’s shown they can keep pace with. It’s also the one thing our new coach needs to take note of and is a way you could describe him.
Once Hurley paired the right blend of coaching talent and player talent to that bit of madness to win he has they have been a machine.

While they absolutely have had some good fortune, that relentless nature has put them into those positions.

They lose without the dumbest play ever from boozer and if their guy doesn't drain a logo three. Duke lost that more than they won. Just throw the damn ball in the air!

I hear you but UConn fought their way back in and forced a young team to have to execute even if it was their good fortune that Duke couldn’t.

The problem is that with this much consistent "luck", it's not luck anymore.

I hate UConn. Hate Hurley. Hate Jake Voskuhl. Hate all of UConn. But it's not luck. This is what a great coach can bring you.

Hurley is what everyone used to think Izzo was. He gets his guys ready for March and they thrive in the one and done tournament set up.

When they make the S16, they then go on and win the chip and have each time since 2011. This year may be no different. They are, I think, 18-0 if they hit the S16 counting 2011.

That isn't luck. That is coaching. That is getting the right players. That is a program that is a machine.

Again, I hate UConn. But this is a masterclass of a run they are have been on.

Absolute living hell for cuse fans that Uconn gets the single most dislikable human being in the history of humanity as their coach and he happens to be the best in the business. I just can't take it. He has to pay for his antics one way or another one of these games. You can't act like he does and not have some built up karma. You just can't. Basketball gods have to step in here.

Still true that they lose if Boozer wasn't a total idiot. No matter how relentless and march ready Hurley got them.

You know who complains about luck?

Losers.
