NCAA investigation: Internship hours, ties between YMCA and Syracuse athletes part of inquiry

Yes the article says as much. Poor oversight of the program by the university. the hours worked were not bogus, just the method in which to track the hours was piss poor.
Two years??? This is what they came up with. I feel a lot better. And so does Syracuse University, from what I hear.

I tweeted Chris Carlson yesterday. Said I couldn't wait for Boeheim to open fire on him once the findings are revealed. He said he'll be front and center!
What a dingbell.

Show me a transcript that doesn't have some questionable credits, and I'll show you a college graduate that never learned how to navigate bureaucracy.

BINGO. My quote to justify it to my roommates and myself was, "Don't be angry because I know how to play the system."

So was it like my community service where they just signed off on it to get rid of me.

I also won't talk about the 12 credit internship I did with Campus Security so I could graduate.

I took first aid, golf, cpr and wine tasting my senior year. Wine tasting was the hardest class out of the 4. I believe it was the only class I didn't get an A in the last semester of my senior year. I also wrote half my papers while drinking, and doing "other things".

I know I ended up with 6 credits from one thesis/research paper my senior year and I submitted most of the design work as a final project for a third class.

I rarely showed up at my English Comp. class (not at SU) and handed in most of my assignments the last week of classes. I passed.

We had interns where we worked years ago from the local college, how the heck was the college going to oversee the hours at a remote location? It was the company's responsibility to oversee the interns and give a report to the college where I worked.

Much of my grade in one class involved diagramming the key plays in that year's Super Bowl. I wore the team poncho for my visual effect. Loved college.

Exactly

First, what is this?

Investigators also asked about a former YMCA employee who had exceptional access to Syracuse men's basketball players and was sued for allegedly misappropriating close to $350,000 from the Y. It is unclear if any of those funds were given to athletes

It is unclear or there is absolutely no evidence that any of these funds were given to athletes? This is ridiculous and implies potential guilt to make the story jucier.

Second, do you see Axe's comment in the comments section:

"The plot thickens?"

I know it's just the comments, but What.

I usually defend these guys but this is some BS. Act, write and behave like a professional.
axe just tweeted something about stories about the weekend, about Cal and wishing Coach Boeheim a happy birthday . I tweeted back after you pull the cake cutting knife out his back, the plot thickens...lol

I wonder what the NCAA would have thought when we went on a field trip to a strip club for "Human Sexuality" with Sol Gordon. And also Prof. Gordon gave no grade below a "B" unless you did not show up for class at all. And in reality, although it was known as the biggest "gut" class at SU in my day, and everyone tried like crazy to get into it, the class was actually very good, and covered many topics we all needed to learn about. And he got us to go to class even though we didn't really need to do any work. I didn't even need to do any work at the strip club, phew!!

Ha. This thread got much better (and many others did too), when I, for the first time ever, implemented the ignore feature. Unfortunately, I'm doubting that is a viable option for you since you are a mod. I feel for you!

Yea, we can't put people on ignore. We have to be able to see the "good" stuff. But on the flip side, posters can't out mods and admins on ignore either.

Can't believe how many of you took cake courses cause you could or found internships that were bogus. My kids will be cut off if they try that. What about doing things good for your career?

Work smarter, not harder.

did you soak any corks in the wine tasting class?

Agree with that completely. Doesn't fit with your post about senior classes.

I didn't have the experience some on here speak of, and I went to 3 different schools. I'm somewhat jealous. At the same time, it sounds like SU academics in general may deserve more of the scrutiny than the athletic programs!

I took a few courses up on the hill that involved nude figure drawing. Three things:

1. Hope it's not a dude.
2. Hope it's not a geezer.
3. Hope it's that one student who needed the money and was hooooot. Always paid the closest attention those days.

Easy A's.

Sometimes you don't know. Took an internship and a research assistantship that turned out to be comical. It's hard to know.

Of course, I went to rodeo clown school, so...
