Nerlens Noel Discusses Syracuse Visit

I don't expect Melo to return, but whether Melo stays or goes shouldn't make a difference to Noel, since Noel is a 4 for SU.

How tall is he without the flat-top?

If Melo goes Noel would be the 5 at cuse

Dajuan Coleman would beg to differ.
Abslutely agree Nirvana ... whether Melo goes (likely) or not and we are able to grab Noel ... he is our future 4. Coleman will start at the 5... no question. Keita will back him up as he did Melo. Noel will start at the 4 and Rak will back him up ... the difference is that either Noel or Rak could swing to the 5 if necessary and unless Coleman loses weight and gets conditioned it will likely be necessary. Noel would start at the 4 and our front line would be awesome.

Coleman is a great recruit and will be a fantastic big man... but probably not right away. Very few big guys are so good they can come in and dominate right away like Davis or Noel. Coleman will take the more traditional route. Contribute year one off the bench while learning. Be good to very good year two. If he's around year three he becomes dominant. But if Melo leaves there is Zero chance Noel, if he comes, is not the starting 5. Xmas prob takes that next step and is ready to play actual starters minutes at the 4.

Coleman will be our starting center from day one. Fab is gone count it as to Noel i do think he picks orange and i see him starting at the 4 as well.

Christmas and Noel belong on the same team, just because of their names.

I don't ever recall being as excited by the prospect of a recruit coming here.;) Of course, I was, by Carmelo, Pearl and Bouie.:) Let's Hope Nerlens chooses US !!

I think under normal circumstances Noel is the 5. But with KrisJo leaving next year, our forwards will be Fair/Grant/Southerland. CJ obviously starts, but I don't think Southerland will get 20+mpg nor do I think Grant will be ready to put up major PT right away. Noel is the 4.

I really think you folks are underestimating how rare guys like Davis and Noel are. Xmas is a McD all American too, and his first year he is nowhere near ready to play 25 min per game, and nobody should be surprised. Coleman will help immediately, and if Melo leaves and we don't get Noel he'll start, but don't be disappointed when theres a learning curve for him just like 99.9% of big men. Xmas will take a step forward this offseason now that he'll know what he's in for and will be much more prepared Coleman to play a lot of minutes.

The bottom line: Coleman didn't sign with Syracuse to come off the bench. That has nothing to do with learning curves or expecting him to dominate. The only way DC doesn't start is if Melo returns, which is not likely. Noel starts at the 4 no matter what happens.

This is my understanding based on what our trustworthy posters here have stated.

And if Coleman isn't ready? I suppose you could do what JB does with Xmas this year, start him a couple min and then move to your REAL lineup with Noel at the 5. Or what if Noel is waiting on Melo's decision and when Melo leaves tells JB he'll pick SU if he's the 5 and not the 4? Ya say no thanks we're not interested?

Plus Noel is a 4 in the NBA. I think he'll want to play the 4. It's stuns me how much people underestimate DC. He's a versitile 5, real good hands and quick feet for a guy his size. Let's just hope he starts training his ass off so he's ready to get up and down.

I'm sure that scenario has already been addressed.

I really think you're underestimating Rak. He's going to make a big leap this offseason. Maybe not as much as Fab did, that would be asking too much, but most big guys struggle severely their first year and are much better their 2nd. He's a McD AA and will be more prepared to lock down the 4 with Noel at 5 than a freshman will be.

Noel is the guy. He comes in and he starts at the 5 with rak at the 4. Coleman plays a lot.

I think that the bottom line is, if SU is lucky enough to have Noel next year, the 4/5 will have a main rotation of Christmas, Coleman and Noel with Keita a likely distant fourth or redshirting. The fact that it is being debated so thoroughly shows the versatility and potential of that group. It is amazing to me to think of any two of those guys at any time during a game, but quite likely it will be all game long that two of those three will be patrolling the back line of the SU zone. There are 80 minutes for those two positions, split them up fairly evenly or go with the hot hand, it doesn't matter, I think that rebounding and low post scoring is going to take a step up next year.
