I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.)

It was a 118-possession game.

If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession:
We scored 64 points in 63 possessions = 1.016 points/ possession
They scored 54 points in 62 possessions = 0.871 points/possession

We scored 64 on 24 two point attempts, 32 three point attempts and 15 free throw attempts = 64 of a possible 159 points = 40.3% of possible points scored.
They scored 54 on 30 two point attempts, 29 three point attempts and 6 free throw attempts = 54 of a possible 153 points = 35.3% of possible points scored.


Fouls

We attempted 24 two point shots and were fouled 14 times = 1.71
They attempted 30 two point shots and were fouled 11 times = 2.73
At this rate, if we’d taken 30 two point shots, we’d have been fouled 17.5 times.


Comments

- The caliber of defense played by both teams is reflected in the scoring in ‘unsettled situation”, (after an offensive rebound or a turnover). We scored just 12 points after 19 such situations and Clemson scored 12 in 18. Normally a team will average a point per each situation. It’s hard for teams to play organized defense in those situations or do it with much intensity, at least for the first few seconds after the rebound or turnover but these teams kept right on playing sticky defense even when they lost or failed to get control of the ball.

- Here’s another defensive accomplishment: Clemson hit 17 of 28 two point shots in the first meeting, (60.7%). In this one they were 10/30 = 33.3%).

- You can deal with their bench out-scoring yours 10-28 if your starters out-score theirs 54-26.

- Both teams had 10 three pointers. We had one more two-pointer, 11-10. So how did 17 of their 20 baskets get credited with assists when only 14 of our 21 were?
 
More of ours were on put-back’s or other O-rebounding situations.
That sequence where we missed THREE straight 3’s, but also got all 3 boards, and then finally canned the 4th one is a perfect example.

And of course, iso-ball = no assist.

We were much better w ball movement than recent usual.
But there were still iso-ball sets happening - Buddy abused that little white guy several times on iso backdown/drives.
