I’ve added so many things to my post-game “Net Points” posts over the years that it’s become a very long post to read and a longer one to do. I’ve decided to have separate posts for the numbers for a particular game and for the cumulative season totals. It’s the later that takes most of the time and lengthens the post so much. There was too much verbiage and too many numbers.

I’m still going to figure the season totals but I’ll post them at three different stages of the season: after the pre-conference schedule, after the conference schedule and after the post season. In the meantime, I’ll go with this stream-lined version of “Net Points, etc.” after each game, with numbers and commentary only for that game. That should make it both quicker to do and more digestible.

Team Stats:

POSSESSION

Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)
We rebounded 12 of our 41 misses = 29.3%
They rebounded 12 of their 30 misses = 40.0%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)
We got 17 points on 12 O-Rebs = 1.42 points
They got 8 points on 12 O-Rebs = 0.67 points

Turnovers
(Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers)
We had 13 turnovers – 6 steals = 7 unforced
They had 19 turnovers – 10 steals = 6 unforced

Points per Takeaway
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)
We had 13 points from 19 takeaways = 0.68 points
They had 10 points from 13 takeaways = 0.77 points

Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)
We had 30 + 19 = 49
They had 41 + 13 = 54

Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)
Our starters scored 60 points and our bench scored 11 points

It was a 153 possession game

Breakdown by Quarters

Comments:

- Tyler Lydon’s 35 net points are the most of the season so far, as are his 31 O-Dog points and his +25 offensive efficiency.

- It was the 6th straight game we’ve lost the rebound battle. In those games we’ve rebounded 25%, 21%, 27%, 29%, 26% and 29% of our misses. We rebounded 44% in the first four games.

- I keep track of points per offensive rebounds and points per turnover to see how the teams are doing in unsettled situations. In this game it was inconclusive: we scored 17 points after 12 offensive rebounds but only 13 points off of 19 turnovers. They scored only 8 points form 12 o-rebs and 10 points from 13 turnovers.

- We had our lowest POP of the season with 21. Georgetown didn’t have a lot, either with 26. But look at this: in our most impressive win of the season, the 21 point win over Monmouth, we had 41POP to 12 for them. We aren’t great inside and we don’t’ run any more so we need a gap between our performance and the other teams from outside to get good results.

- For the first time all season we didn’t score form the Twilight Zone. We’d been averaging 10 points a game from there. Georgetown got 8 – and won by 7.

- Both teams had 25 field goals and we had one more three pointer, so it’s obvious the game was lost from the line.

- We went from assisting on 80% of our field goals vs. Boston U. to 40% in this game because we were so determined to drive to the basket to score. We went from 42 points from the arc and 14 from the TZ to 21 and zero.
