TEAM STATS

Possession

Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)
We rebounded 14 of our 41 misses = 34.1%
They rebounded 5 of their 28 misses = 17.9%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)
We got 11 points on 14 O-Rebs = 0.786 points/O-Reb
They got 10 points on 5 O-Rebs = 2.000 points/O-Reb

Unforced Turnovers
(Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers)
We had 15 turnovers – 7 steals = 8 unforced
They had 19 turnovers – 11 steals = 8 unforced

Points per Takeover
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)
We had 12 points from 19 takeovers = 0.6315 points/takeaway
They had 23 points from 15 takeovers = 1.533 points/takeaway

Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeover: [Second Chance Point s+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)
We had 23 points in 33 unsettled situations = 0.697 points
They had 33 points in 20 unsettled situations = 1.650 points

Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)
We had 37 + 19 = 56
They had 32 + 15 = 47

Hustle Stats
One of the radio sponsors gives an award to the team that had the most “hustle stats”, which they define as rebounds + steals + blocks. I decided to keep track of that, too:
We had 37 + 2 + 11 = 50
They had 32 + 6 + 7= 45

Scoring

Shooting
(Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)
We were 22 for 46 on twos, (47.8%), 3 for 18 on threes (16.7%) and 21 for 27 on frees (77.8%)
They were 14 for 23 on twos, (60.9%), 11 for 25 on threes (44.0%) and 18 for 28 on frees (64.3%)
Combined percentages were: 1423 (478 + 167 + 778) vs. 1692 (609 + 440 + 643) = -269

Points
(PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum”
POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made
OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots)
TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint)
FBP = fast break points
POTO= points off turnovers

We had 40 PIP, 13 POP, 9 OL, 4 TZ, 12 POTO, 13 FBP
They had 26 PIP, 35 POP, 33 OL, 2 TZ, 23 POTO, 21 FBP

Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)
We scored 13 FBP in 36 opportunities (36.1%)
They scored 21 FBP in 40 opportunities (52.5%)

First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)
We had 29 FCP and 11 SCP
They had 30 FCP and 10 SCP

Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)
Our starters scored 55 points and our bench scored 19 points
Their starters scored 58 points and their bench scored 21 points

Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)
We assisted 7 of our 25 field goals = 28.0%
They assisted 16 of their 25 field goals = 64.0%

Team Offensive Possession Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions)
We scored 74 points in 77 possessions = 0.961 points/ possession
They scored 79 points in 76 possessions = 1.039 points/possession
It was a 153 possession game.

If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession:
We scored 74 points in 77 possessions = 0.961 points/ possession
They scored 79 points in 61 possessions = 1.295 points/possession

Team Shooting Efficiency

(Points minus missed field goals and free throws)

We scored 74 points, missed 39 field goals and missed 6 free throws = net +29
They scored 79 points, missed 23 field goals and missed 10 free throws = net +46

(Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot)

We scored 74 on 46 two point attempts, 18 three point attempts and 27 free throw attempts = 74 of a possible 173 points = 42.8% of possible points scored.
They scored 79 on 23 two point attempts, 25 three point attempts and 28 free throw attempts = 79 of a possible 149 points = 53.0% of possible points scored.

Breakdown by Quarters
(Points scored between the beginning of the game and the 10 minute mark of the first half, then halftime, then the 10 minute mark of the second half, the end of regulation and then overtime of there was one)

11-17, 24-22, 25-17, 14-23

Fouls

(Two point shots and free throws attempted per times fouled.)
We attempted 46 two point shots, attempted 27 free throws and were fouled 19 times = 2.42; 1.42
They attempted 23 two point shots, attempted 28 free throws and were fouled 21 times = 1.10; 1.33
They were more likely to get calls when attempting two point shots but we got more shots per foul.

Comments

- Net Points by freshmen: 44. Net points by sophomores and juniors, (we have no seniors): 0

- Points off of offensive rebounds and takeovers = SU: 23 NC State: 33. Number of offensive rebounds plus takeovers: SU: 33 NC State: 20. The Wolfpack won the game by taking much better advent age of their opportunities.

- The Pack shot 61% inside the arc and 44% outside of it. We shot 48% inside of it and 17% outside of it. Both sides had plenty of open shots. They rarely missed theirs. We rarely made ours.

- JB had a point: you normally get fouled on 2 point shots. We took 46 of them and drew fouls 19 times. They attempted half as many and drew fouls 21 times.

Technically, Buddy “only” played 39 mins.

He was subbed out briefly in the 1st half.
and he fouled out very late in the 2nd half.

I don’t know if the sum total of both of those was 1 minute, but I’d hafta assume it was greater than :30 seconds for both, so rounding to nearest minute, he played 39.

He should have played far fewer.
