Team Stats:

POSSESSION

Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)
We rebounded 9 of our 35 misses = 25.7%
They rebounded 15 of their 31 misses = 48.4%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)
We got 12 points on 9 O-Rebs = 1.33 points
They got 8 points on 15 O-Rebs = 0.53 points

Turnovers
(Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers)
We had 10 turnovers – 5 steals = 5 unforced
They had 17 turnovers – 7 steals = 10 unforced

Points per Takeaway
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)
We had 19 points from 17 takeaways = 1.12 points
They had 10 points from 10 takeaways = 1.00 points

Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeaway: [Second Chance Point + Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)
We had 31 points in 26 unsettled situations = 1.19
They had 18 points in 25 unsettled situations = 0.72

Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)
We had 25 + 17 = 42
They had 41 + 10 = 51

Comments:

- Tyler Lydon has played every minute of the last seven games. And he’ll probably play every minute of the next seven, too.

- It’s kind of amazing that we got 12 points from 9 offensive rebounds and they only got 8 on 15.

- This was only the third conference game where we had fewer unforced turnovers than the opposition. The press gave up some scores but we got 19 points off turnovers to Pitt’s 10.

- Our 22 pop was the lowest since Virginia Tech, ten games ago.

- Pitt was supposed to be a team we could beat down court but they out-scored us on fast breaks 10-16.

- It’s unusual to see SU have a 20-0 edge in bench points. It’s also unusual to see our starters out-scored 55-80. Our starters had out-scored the opposition in every one of our five straight wins.

- I’ll repeat this from the downside: 25 of Pitts’ 26 baskets were assisted. Really?

- We’ve played two teams this year that drew fouls more often on two point shot attempts and points in the paint and got more free throw attempts per foul called than we did: Colgate and Pittsburgh.
