I’ve added so many things to my post-game “Net Points” posts over the years that it’s become a very long post to read and a longer one to do. I’ve decided to have separate posts for the numbers for a particular game and for the cumulative season totals. It’s the later that takes most of the time and lengthens the post so much. There was too much verbiage and too many numbers.
I’m still going to figure the season totals but I’ll post them at three different stages of the season: after the pre-conference schedule, after the conference schedule and after the post season. In the meantime, I’ll go with this stream-lined version of “Net Points, etc.” after each game, with numbers and commentary only for that game. That should make it both quicker to do and more digestible.

We attempted 31 two point shots, scored 24 points in the paint, attempted 28 free throws and were fouled 24 times = 1.29, 1.00, 1.17
They attempted 42 two point shots, scored 46 points in the paint, attempted 8 free throws and were fouled 12 times = 3.50, 3.83, 0.67
Comments:
- Andrew White’s 34 points, 33 net points, 34 O-Dog points and 29 scoring efficiency points were the third best all season in each category, behind Gillon’s NC State game and White’s own performance in the second Georgia Tech game.
- When Tyler Lydon’s free throw got us tacos at 9:41, it was the earliest we’d done that since the Eastern Michigan game, 86 days ago.
- Tyler Lydon and Andrew White have played the entire game 12 times in the last 13 games.
- This was the first time since the first Georgia Tech game that we out-rebounded our opponent. But we did so because of a 19-8 first half. The second half was 17-20.
- We’ve had 6 second chance points in two post-season games, compared to 21 for our opposition.
- We’ve had 15 unforced turnovers in the post season, compared to 6 for the opposition.
- UNC-G was +13 in unsettled situations, (36 points to 23).
- It was the second time this year that both teams shot over 60% inside the arc. The other was the Clemson game.
- We were out-scored in the paint 24-46, despite the fact that fast break points were even at 12-12. That means that in the half-court sets, they outscored us 12-34 in the paint.
- We won the game with jump shots: 43 POP to 27, most of the difference from the Twlight Zone, 16-6, and…
- From the foul line, where we got to the line 28 times to 8 and out-scored them 23-4.
- Our good shooting got us 20 assists, the most since the Florida State game.
- The 147 possessions were also the most since the Florida State game.
- A gigantic factor in this game was the way it was called. We were 3-4 times more likely to draw a foul on a two points host attempt or when scoring in the paint and the times we were fouled produced more than three times as many free throw attempts, (which we converted at a 82% rate to be +19 points at the line). I don’t think the refs were necessarily biased. I just think we did so little to defend their passing into the paint and their subsequent shooting attempts that we didn’t even foul them.
