Wrote up Aburn, who is a re-class and transfer from McDonough, here at the @CrabsLacrosse Autumn Classic: http://bit.ly/1qr7Va7

Basil Aburn ’18, A, Crabs / Boys’ Latin (Md.) – Aburn was Mr. Johnny-On-The-Spot in the championship game, putting up a handful of quick rebound tallies in front of the cage on his way to a four-goal showing. Had a beauty of a bar down shot to open the second half and was just generally an opportunistic and creative player.

Confirmed that Boys' Latin / @CrabsLacrosse 2018 attackman Basil Aburn committed to Syracuse last night. Excellent off-ball finisher.
From being behind in early recruiting to now leading the way for the 2018 class. As I mentioned months ago to many people were worried about recruiting, Desko has done a much better job the past few years of getting back into the recruiting game and the efforts are clearly bearing fruit. Another great pickup!

Picking up guys from BL and the MIAA is huge and hopefully will lead to a nice domino effect. Tons of good players coming out of that league and area in general.

Interesting that this happens right before Jake Reed this weekend. Are there any other big events left this fall?

Basil Aburn, A, Boys’ Latin (Md.) has verbally committed to Syracuse. After transferring from MIAA rival McDonogh and repeating his freshman year (summer highlights can be seen here), the righty finisher has appeared to look very comfortable with the Crabs 2018′s.

Aburn is sneaky and great at finding holes in the defense, taking advantage of the high lacrosse IQ that many Baltimore lacrosse players get from growing up around parents and relatives who played the sport at the college level. On Sunday at the Famous Autumn Classic out in Bel Air, he accounted for a third of the Crabs’ goals in their 12-2 championship victory over the Breakers, including an absolute beauty of a shot to open the second half that hit the crossbar and went in. He has extremely quick hands and is money within five yards of the goal, where he uses his body to follow up on rebounds while also having an impact in the riding game to turn defense into offense.

Crab Feast, one of the big summer tournaments in Maryland, was one of several major events taking place this past weekend. Held at Cedar Lane Park in Bel Air, Maryland, the event featured many of the nation’s top 2018 players on about 40 different club rosters. We were on the ground at Crab Feast, among other places. Here are some players who stood out over the course of the weekend...

Basil Aburn, Attack, Boys’ Latin (Md.)/Baltimore Crabs – Syracuse
Aburn was one of the most skilled offensive players at the Crab Feast. He is extremely crafty around the goal with great ability to get his hands free to score or see the field. He is another do-it-all attackman, impossible not to notice right away.

Aburn really shined at the camp as an attackman who is simply hard to figure out for defenders. Is he an off-ball finisher? Is he a wing dodger? It seems he’s those and more, as he shined early at Jake Reed’s event, coming out of the gate strong. He somehow just makes things happen and is very crafty with his body and his stick. He doesn’t look like he’s necessarily trying to be deceptive, but he is being deceptive in the way that he carries and subtly changes speeds and direction on his man. And he will take a variety of angles to the cage, which he showed at Nike Blue Chip. He scored in at least three goals in one of his first games. One goal was assisted, another saw him slip inside his man from the wing and hammer a shot overhand. He scored another goal that saw him somehow have only one hand on his stick then all the sudden finish a low to high shot on the doorstep. He will put up points in the MIAA and could quickly become a factor for Boys’ Latin as one of several young high-IQ attackman on the varsity roster.

Ty Xanders calls this the best prep Lax rivalry in the country. 100th all-time game

I have been to one of these games about 20 years ago and it was something special. Probably about 3-4K fans for a high school game. Have a few friends that went to each school and the quality of lacrosse is second to none. Serious talent depth on both sidelines. Glad to see BL won at SP.
