Class of 2018 New Commit: Owen Hill (Hill Acad) Mid

Hope he does well. Dang a few of y'all did all that intense detective work to find the right Owen Hill and he never actually saw the field. Major bummer
I wonder how he could be one of the top prospects in the draft if he never saw the field in college.

In any event, his departure will help to eliminate confusion at the college level between him and the other Owen Hill, as well as with our own Owen Hull and Owen Hiltz. :)

Box play is a completely different world from the college game.

Agreed. Athleticism plays a smaller part in box than knowing the game and being able to anticipate plays. Cleverness, composure, guile are more important than in field.

Yup, plus a lot of the Native players have been playing box since they were kids. Years ago a friend of min saw Cody Jameson, Sid Smith and Kent Squires-Hill play in a box game together locally, said they were ridiculous. We know the first two were also good college players, we will never know with KSH, what a waste.

It didn't seem like he was ever super productive offensively at the Hill Academy or in the OLA junior circuit, so I didn't expect much at SU. And I'm guessing he wasn't a good enough individual defender to make it at SSDM. I hope he does well in the NLL.
I think he was pretty solid at the hill as far as production goes. I thought he had a legit chance to be our new Brad Voigt offball wizard and/or man up specialist. But then Scanlan came along so that became unlikely

His cuse.com bio says he scored 15 goals in his last season at Hill. i don't think that's the kind of HS offensive productivity that you see from a high end college player.

Ah I see. Did not know there was access to that info and was just going off of some Hill highlight footage. It's a little more excusable given the level of talent at the Hill, but yeah you are 100% right.

KO Hill was that slight a/m with good hands that passed through .

Understand positions are labeled differently in NLL but cant imagine he's a defenseman.

Only thing I took from NLL draft was emphasis was on drafting those who were familiar with much box experience in Junior league moreso than those with success in field (college) play. Very few poles because everyone plays with short sticks . Some good college ssdm picked in later rounds and Dearth was the one current Cuse player in last year of eligibility selected. Assume Scanlan box skills will result in him being a high NLL pick once he finishes here.
