Franklin Howard is a part of Syracuse's highly-touted recruiting class of 2015 which was most recently rated seventh by ESPN.com. He's already arrived and is taking classes at the University.

Howard was a standout, 6-4 guard at Paul VI High School in Washington D.C. He missed his junior year because of a knee injury but returned to the court for his senior season. Howard earned all-state and All-Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) in his final campaign.

He has scholastic experience at both guard slots for Coach Glenn Farello.

Very interested to see what Frank brings. He's kinda 'under the radar,' even within our own ranks. No one's talking much about him — it's all about Malachi and Tyler. Frank seems to have sort of a CJ Fair-ish demeanor. Hope to see that kind of development and productivity.

[I like these little interviews.]

Did I miss the Malachi interview? MB att Park mentioned it in this one.

I was wondering about that too

Really sad to hear one of his tattoos is tribute to his brother who was murdered. :(

From that interview, two of Howard's favorite movies: Juice and Above the Rim, both feature Tupac as the antagonist. His character Bishop in Juice is one of the all time best movie villains. Know the Ledge.

Welcome back tee. Doesn't seem like you've been around for a little while.

It is going to be great to FINALLY [after three years] have some better depth at both backcourt spots. And although I don't expect Howard to offer much by way of consistent outside shooting this year at least, I love this kid's game, and think he provides us with a TON of potential at lead guard. Not to mention, he'll be ready if Joseph falters.

Howard is going to be a great player for us in our system by the end of his career.

This is really a great class.

It may take some time but yeah. People will look back and say wow that was an excellent recruiting class.

Sidenote...the main character in Above The Rim wore a Cuse hat in several parts of the movie, even though he was headed to Georgetown. Is it weird that even though I always enjoyed that movie, that that was the most important part to me?

I've been saying for awhile, I think Howard is a more raw version of MCW. By the time he's a junior he could be a terrific guard for us.

Yup, Kyle. I want to say he rocked the 90s style box letter S-Y-R-A-C-U-S-E hat. But yeah, either way, with Georgetown...the power struggle. Such a good movie. The slashing/scoring forward who redeemed himself has serious game.
SUball

I feel like it was the weird looking S logo that we had up to the early 90's or so, that had "Syracuse" written above the weird S and "1870" below it. Is that what you mean?

edit: It is that weird looking block S logo, though without the "Syracuse" and "1870" that were often present on that logo. Just youtubed it, it's in the scene where Kyle confronts Flip and finds out Shep and Birdie are brothers, and then Birdie and the guy who played Avon Barksdale on the Wire(don't remember his characters name in this movie) kill Flip. I'd link it, but don't want to offend any with the violence/language.

It's been a long time since I saw it, but the scene with Shep in the park at night playing basketball without a ball was easily my favorite part.

What I like about Franklin is the way he moves to the basket. He has bouncy springs to get around defenders. His bouncy springs to the basket reminds me of Josh Pace.

Franklin Howard (1:57 on the stream is the drive to look at):
Josh Pace (first highlight): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYQvhydm0ME

Also, from the highlight videos he seems pretty good at dishing the ball off his drives to the basket.

Ha, gotta check that clip out. But yeah agree, the Shep basketball without the ball scene was awesome!
Edit: Just saw the scene, that S logo was a great one, had at least one of those. But definitely different than the one I was guessing.

From the above highlights, it seems that Howard is good at slashing and dishing on his way to the basket. It's always hard to tell how good a shooter one is from highlights--You would have thought MCW was an amazing shooter from his HS highlights.

One note of concern: it seems he does not have much of a left hand. Howard always comes back to his right even when his left would suit the situation much better.

Cause Strong on the Isle - I recoup and lay around!

Loved Juice but Fresh was even better.

Totally agree. This group's combination of top line talent (immediate contributors) and solid 4 year prospects who could be all-ACC by their Junior/Senior years will be the group that enables us to weather the sanctions unscathed (or relatively unscathed at least). One and dones are great but you only have them for one year then you have to refill the gaps.

It's low-key on campus in the summer ... lifting at 6AM, a class or two, some pickup in the evenings. But 10 or 12 weeks from now, practice will start and they'll find out what it's like to have their ch*t swatted out of the gym when they drive to the rim. I'm not sure how good we'll be this year, especially with our Center situation. But this class looks solid across the board -- big guards and long, athletic forwards. They're going to be locked and cocked by the time Battle arrives and Chukwu assumes absolute control of the paint.
