Not sure, but I imagine he has a track scholarship. He was pretty accomplished in high school.

Yeah, but I think there's some weird clause where an athlete that plays multiple sports including football will automatically have the scholly count for football so football teams can't basically increase their roster size via the other sports.

If he is on both teams, and on scholarship, his scholarship would count as one of the FB team's 85. I guess he walked onto the track team. Or ran on. Whatever.

15.5.9.1.1 Initial Counter. [FBS/FCS] A counter who previously has not been counted in football shall be considered an initial counter even though the student-athlete already has received countable financial aid in another sport.

If he's on a track scholarship, he would also have to count towards our 85 scholarship limit for Football. The NCAA closed that loophole years ago when Miami used to put all their WR's and DB's on track scholarships to circumvent the 85 player limit.

He must either be a pure walk-on, or he's receiving grant money from his academics.

Most of SU's track scholarship $ goes to distance runners, and looking at what he runs, it's safe to assume he's a walk-on.
