Player Compensation Inflation. For those who think the rev share cap will give us a competitive advantage over others in basketball… A10 schools are all aiming for $3M for bball. NIL collectives will continue to be the real differentiator.
St. Bonaventure University hosted a zoom webinar last night with their President and AD. It was FANTASTIC. It was a very brief overview of NIL and the court cases/settlement that got us to this point, followed by them stating they would be opting in, and what that means. It was not a plug for money (yet), but incredible levels of transparency and accountability. They did not record it, but I wish SU would do the same (or maybe they have with their high level donors, which I did not make the cut).Player Compensation Inflation.
It's coming. Hope we're prepared.
I'm not surprised. I know a few Bonnies and they LOVVVVE their alma mater. It's cult like!St. Bonaventure University hosted a zoom webinar last night with their President and AD. It was FANTASTIC. The SBU president said that while he did not want to speak for other A10 schools, he believes that 1-2 schools will not be opting in. Bonaventure officially opted in today.
Edited to add: In addition to them being incredibly transparent, they took a ton of questions. The questions they did not answer "on air", were being answered by their VP of communications and the President's chief of staff in the chat. So pretty much any question asked by someone was answered at some point. Again, it was really well done.
I know comparing SU to SBU, particularly in terms of power vs non-power conferences, is like comparing apples and oranges (pun intended), but I think SU could take a lesson in how leadership should interact with their constituent base in terms of transparency and accountability. It was a zoom webinar (as opposed to zoom meeting) so it wasn't a free for all, but their leadership was candid and took any question thrown their way, hard or a softball.I'm not surprised. For being the best communications school we really have a difficult time communicating.I know comparing SU to SBU, particularly in terms of power vs non-power conferences, is like comparing apples and oranges (pun intended), but I think SU could take a lesson in how leadership should interact with their constituent base in terms of transparency and accountability. People are saying we're prepared now. GM in place, NIL budget ready to go.LOL When have we ever been prepared. They just said we were not prepared for NIL this offseason, even though it has been around for a while now and just saw how important it was during our football season. Our coach didn't realize that it was a full time job now.
