New Nickels Coach: Blaine Miller?

What is a nickels coach?
He counts the change in our NIL fund

His full name is apparently Blaine Kauhiohoakaokalani Miller. Not sure if the middle name is a joke. Looks like he might switch to other Hawaiian middle names sometimes.

Just turned 35. Born in Lancaster, PA. Went to Grove City College, also in PA, where he was a star football player. He gets around. Also worked for Mel Tucker at Alabama, and followed him to Colorado. But his relationship with Smart at Bama was strong and he ended up working with him at Georgia a couple of times.

Seems like he probably wouldn't leave his analyst position at Georgia to be an analyst at SU.
If he's only coaching nickels, that has to mean that Joe Schaefer isn't leaving the staff.

So if you add Blaine Miller and Ricky Brumfield, that makes 12 coaches.
Only 11 are allowed to participate in recruiting.

Maybe somebody is staying off the recruiting trail.

I wonder if Fran plans to be less hands on with the DBs in year two necessitating an additional coach he trusts.
I'd assume Fran will continue to work with the corners when he can. A lot of the run game issues in 2024 came down to the positioning of the back 3, so I wonder if they're really breaking things down this off-season to bring things along.

I think the rule limiting staff to 10 assistants who coach on the field was removed last summer.

Last I knew, only 10 assistants can actually recruit.

Looks like 11 can participate in off-campus recruiting.

Eleven counting the head coach, so 10 assistants recruiting. Interesting changes, including the following:

Cannabis testing

The council voted to remove cannabinoids from the banned drug class for championships and postseason participation in football, effective immediately.

"The NCAA drug testing program is intended to focus on integrity of competition, and cannabis products do not provide a competitive advantage," Whitman said. "The council's focus is on policies centered on student-athlete health and well-being rather than punishment for cannabis use."

Any penalties currently being served by student-athletes who previously tested positive for cannabinoids will be discontinued.

Aside: Long past time to give JB his wins back. Ridiculous.
