new QB

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but it really is. I went along my day saturday and didnt even think about the SU game. Got home after halftime, saw it was 20-7, and put something else on. Call me a bad fan, but at this point Syracuse will regain my attention when they start mastering the basic principals and execution of offense. Right now, we are a dumpster fire. Blame the coaching, blame the schedule, blame the injuries, blame the players, I dont care who we blame. Its simply ugly football to watch, even for my favorite college football team and my alma mater.

You missed a nice game from Ish. Cordy saw his first action and had a beauty of an INT in the end zone. Franklin had another 10 tackles in the middle.

I won't judge you as a fan. But as painful as it was, the little bright spots from the young guys made it worth it for me.

Congrats to the kid on the offer. Hope he turns out to be the second coming. That being said, Oregon kid with no PAC12 offers. Again, not ragging on the kid, he got a D1 offer, FBS, kudos to that. But we are his only P5 offer. Lets save the praise until after he throws a 300 yd 2 TD passing game for us in an Orange uniform.

No more rah rah for the "next" great SU QB. Loeb, Kinder, Hunt, Miller, Wilson, Kimble, Allen, Long, Eduard etc
I would take the QB play of 80% of the non P5 schools right now if I had the chance.

And a new TE as well, as expected. Details on the pay side. ;)

Lots to like about Dungey. Most of all I like the fact that we add another QB to the competition. When you have a QB situation like SU does the more bodies the merrier. Will he ever start a game? Who knows at this point really. But the odds of finding a good competent QB just went up in orange land. Essentially we just signed another Ryan Nassib, Jonny Miller, Terrel Hunt, Austin Wilson, Mitch Kimble, AJ Long, Alin Eduoard. I've said it before but a lot of schools are successful with these types of QB's. We only need one of them to have the right combination of skills and leadership to lead our Orange to victory. Based on the experience I've seen from our incumbents I'll take skills and ability over experience with this group. May the best QB win.

Not to be Mr. Negative Nancy but I doubt this kid ever makes it to Syracuse. After next years dumpster fire of a season coach HCSS is gonzo and I am going to guess that we will not hold on to a QB from Oregon unless there is some personal connection to the area that I am missing.

Sorry Mr. Negative, but he'll be at SU next season.

1. He's a 2015 recruit. So he'll be here for next year.
2. Unless you have a source, you're questioning a kid you've never met based on air.

"He could be a Division I safety" Nice of Bailey to get that quote included from Dungey's HS coach. I'd prefer his thoughts on the kid's ability to be a successful D1 QB.

his size and the he throws the ball reminds me a bit of bill scharr

Charley Loeb 2.0?

I hope he winds up being awesome. That said, offer list + coach raving about his smarts and how he passes the look test remind me of exactly what we heard when we snagged Loeb late in the game.

Really? A three star recruit buys two more years? I think you may have a bug in that program.
If we stayed the course and stank up the joint next year, you could make a case for a 3-year yank. But consider this line of defense:
  • First choice as OC did not work out, so we made a change
  • It takes more than one year for a new offensive scheme to sink in and work to full effect
  • We didn't necessarily have the personnel to run the new (TL) offense
  • Most importantly, we didn't have the QB to run it, but we just signed one, with more on the horizon
  • The QB for the new system might not be ready to play until his RF year, in which case you can't judge the results until after the 2nd year of the new scheme
This fits the 4-year narrative perfectly. You know that line of defense is coming, and IMO there is some validity to it.

The defense has been good, so if we're having this conversation again next year, it will be because of the offense. Do you think Lester is going to succeed next year with our existing QB's? Long might pan out, but I am not sold on anyone else.

There are only 12 p5 teams in the Rocky Mountain and Pacific Coast region , California alone must produce 30, 3 star QB prospects , as well as many 4 stars and a few 5. I don't think it is surprising that He doesn't have a lot of offers from Pac teams , as Cali is their Fla for a large talent pool. The other P5 conferences have lots of talent in their regions.

becuase the one in a millions like Steve MCNair, Kappernick, Big Ben, Flacco etc never got P5 offers either.

That's exactly the problem. As a P5 program, we should be getting good QBs with odds a lot better than one in a million. If we have to rely on those odds, we're in big trouble. Oh, yeah...uh-oh...

Don't want to put words in your mouth but it seems you are saying that a new QB recruit is the linchpin for this line of defense?

I said months ago that Shafer's first real test would be when it came time to fire (demote) the first guy he hired. He was pretty decisive on that one. Where the scenario runs into trouble is giving the job to Lester without so much as a sniff at other candidates. I find this really troubling.

It is hard to imagine another year of this kind of offense without torches and pitchforks. There will have to be significant progress regardless of the new offense install issues.

I think he'll be very good. I know I'm on an island, but who cares.

When we look back on it, we'll see a guy who was given the reins midseason with no bye and no starting QB, running a system that didn't fit our talent and half the starting lineup out or playing out of position.

I don't think you are on an island. I for one just don't know. I think it could go either way and I hope it goes the way you see it. Boy, do I.

I like that this kid is already 6'4" 200lbs.
His body seems like it has filled up for the physical toil of college football.

Hicks is already drooling thinking about all the weight he can add to that frame. But he just opened a fresh pack of DD munchkins, so that could also be the cause of the drooling.
