New recruiting territories for the coaches

Something that happened in October that has already been reported on and that is entirely inconsequential in the grand scheme of Syracuse football.

It's inconsequential in the day-to-day reporting of Syracuse football, yes. But the day-to-day stuff is not Steven Bailey's only job as a Syracuse football beat writer.

Yeah, but who ever talks or reports on this? When do you ever get a full story? Bailey saw a story and tried to take advantage of it.

He saw half a non-story ran with it and then followed up 4 months later when there was fresher more interesting news to be had.

If Shafer comes out publically and says, you know, things changed with us and we went in a different direction and decided to move on from him, that sound byte would be used to negatively recruit against this staff for as long as they are here.

It is one thing to point at decommits when negatively recruiting against a school. Something else entirely when you can have a kid listen to a sound byte saying the coach owns up to making a mistake on the recruiting trail in regards to taking a verbal from someone.

Shafer talks about recruiting "High caliber" kids. What about high caliber coaches who speak honestly to recruits? It does not appear that he was honest with Lindor. Maybe they told him the truth in private..and the kid says something else publicly….Who knows….But from Shafer's reaction, it was clear he was not only uncomfortable with the question, he appeared to adding "Spin"..like a politician.

You probably should have all the info before calling the coaches dishonest. I don't know the whole story and neither do you.

Here's the thing with Bailey's question. I have no problem with him asking the question, but he shouldn't have started the presser with it. Save the question for after all the questions about the kids are finished. End the presser with that question and I don't think Shafer has a meltdown.

Youth is wasted on the wrong people...
