New Ribbon Board?

My main concern so far is it sounds like they want to relocate the vendors to the archbold wing. At face value that sounds asinine. I'm not walking 120 yards just to grab a dome dog. If they are expanding up they must also be expanding out- if the concourses are tripled in size there'd still be space for vendors around the periphery.

What if they just set up a centralized kitchen at Archbold where all the Dome Dogs can be grilled instead of having individual grills at each concession stand. Take out all the grills and each stand would have more room to sell a larger variety of items.

Or, maybe an actual food court at Archbold where people can gather pregame.

That doesn't alleviate congestion in the concourses. They need to be at least tripled in size to avoid Fire code violations for big games.

Have the fire codes changed since 1980?

I know the City and the Fire Department signed off on the Dome construction when they were expecting crowds of 50,000 every game.

And we don't draw anywhere near capacity anymore.

we still draw capacity for hoops where everyone is crammed into one side. The concourses are so tight it doesn't really require capacity for congestion to be an issue.

I can only imagine how upset the basketball season ticket holders sitting in the 200 level if they eliminate those seats and tell them they can move to the 300 level nose bleed seats.
Honestly though...the 300 level seats are not bad at all for basketball in my opinion. I sometimes sit there even when i have the option of 100 or 200 level seating.

300er for life!!!!!

I think the people that prefer the 100s go to the games for different reasons. They want to see the sweat drip off the players or something. The sideline 200s and 300s are the best viewing for those who want to see plays develop. You couldn't pay me enough to sit in the 100s. I even wonder if the courtside view is really worth shelling out for. I could understand it more if the cameras made a point to pan to courtside celebrities a la Jack Nicholson.

Yeah I'd say the best seats in the house for basketball are center court 200 level in the first few rows. To each their own though, I suppose.

I just can not understand how this topic of out of town scores and sports news is an issue in the 21st century with mini computers in everyone's pockets. Not arguing just I do not get it.

Because those "mini computers" barely work in the dome. Why is it so hard to get a competent program to flash scores on those ribbon boards throughout the games? For Christ's sake, the Chiefs do a better job with this, and it's just a guy flipping numbers on an old school scoreboard in the outfield.

To me, adding a third concourse above the 300 level will be one of the biggest fundamental improvements that could be made to the Dome. Add private boxes above the 300 level to help cover the costs of the renovation. Agreed, move the press to the boxes above the 300 level to open up that space for big money donors to move in. They should add some concessions to that level and some escalators and bathrooms too. This would really enhance things for people sitting in that level and reduce congestion in all concourses...

Another concourse would be great as we need to have wall space to put pictures of the current athletes and the Zac Brown Band.

They can put in all the boards in the world and it won't matter because they show very few replays and certainly not the controversial ones.:bang:

I think that the sports marketing company (forgot name) operates the ribbon boards and leases ad space on them. It's really for companies to advertise, not for the fan experience - I get it as SUAD is a business. What SUAD needs is a second smaller ribbon board in each corner that is devoted to the fan experience like out of town scores, game stats, fan tweets, etc, that is operated by SUAD only.

What I don't know is who is responsible for the 2 vid screens - SUAD or the sports marketing firm?

Maybe they'll start installing a scoreboard section of scores around the country and breaking sports news. Would vastly help improve the gameday experience and is one of the most simplest fixes. Really can't believe something this minor wasn't done years ago.
With the current technology of lasers, just project out of town scores on the roof.

Barely work in the dome? Laughable. But like I said I am not trying to argue. But I will bite, why, in the middle of the game do you care what Alabama v Auburn score is? Especially since once midway through the 4th quarter the people rush home can just check sports center or the scores on the crawl. I really want to be convinced that this is a HUGE problem. but I just cant.

They work better than a few years ago, but I wouldn't say great yet.

I agree that at the game you shouldn't be immersed in your phone, but it's a good filler at the half, or extremely long TV TO's. Gives you something to talk about if you know that team X is up on team y.

Step back for a moment and think, regardless of the necessity of having out of town scores available somewhere, anywhere, in the Dome, why is it that the folks at SU seem to have such terrible trouble getting something so easy to function. Every other stadium in the country has some variation of this, but we get things like "West K 20 North 30" to flash across the out of town scores. What is that?

I'm not saying this is a huge issue, but compiled with a number of other gameday experience issues (replay boards that don't show replays, clueless PA announcers not paying attention to what's actually going on on the field, Roosevelt Bowie, etc.) it makes us look like a second rate athletic program, which is, frankly, embarrassing.

So our inability or lack of caring to have out of town scores is embarrassing. Check.

Replay boards played replays allllllllll game long against RI, WF, CMU and LSU. So I don't understand that argument either. Never notice the PA guy.

I will give you the bouie thing obviously a major mistake.

I said all of it put together is embarrassing. And it is, especially when you have visiting fans come into the Dome and notice all of these things. We have supposedly one of the top communications schools in the country, and we can't figure out something as simple as this. Good grief, it's not rocket science.

I'll be sure to count the number of times I don't see a replay during the Pitt game. If it's not a positive play for SU, they never show the replay. Sometimes I might like to see a replay of our QB getting sacked, so I can see what went wrong. Watching at home, I'd see that replay 10 times. Just show it to me once. How hard is that?

do you go to other sporting events? most every HS game I go to announces out of town scores, every minor/Pro sporting event bball/hockey/baseball all do it. i work on computers all day long it doesnt mean i want to have to drag a phone to the dome to get a simple game score.. if you have been to enough dome events in the past when it was hopping, the energy created by an out of town score, that mattered to SU, is crazy. its a simple thing to adds to the game experience much more than a twitter post.

Good points. There's the story of Sam Bowie's recruiting visit to SU when we were ranked #2 and the Manley PA announced the score of a game in which #1 DePaul was trailing and the house went crazy. I'm sure there are a ton of other instances like that.

Going to a game is a communal event. Properly broadcasting out-of-town scores can enhance that experience. Having people rummaging through pockets and consumed by their personal electronic devices necessarily diminishes that experience; we should attempt to do everything possible to keep fans engaged and not distracted by phones (one of the many reasons I believe the Twitter feed promotion is moronic).

at half time I am fighting crowds at the trough and beer stands. I really could give less than a stuff about the Tulane v La. Monroe or L'Ville v Miami score to be honest

yeah but what if its the BC game and the outcome of the FSU game determines whether SU goes to the ACC championship. why does every MLB park have an out of town scoreboard if its not something that adds to the experience. it creates a buzz to see whats happening outside our game. if it was me I would announce all the ACC scores too because they do matter while we are fighting for first place and anything that builds energy in the crowd helps the team.

I will not be convinced on this. So its really fruitless to try. If SU was in a game and BC was playing FSU. I would merely check the ESPN app or set my phone up to send alerts based on the BC game score. That's my position. People not effectively using the technology that exists is a SMH moment. If people are nostalgic for waiting on the in stadium scoreboard then that's cool. I just think its like reason 85,097 in the list of things that would deter me from the carrier dome.

*edit I suppose for the purpose you are saying in in the odd chance that the last game of the year depended on the score it could be used as a crowd motivation. but that's a very small 'effectivity' of usage.
