New rules, as demonstrated by Aaron Craft

Tangent - I wish people would stop calling these "new rules." These are the rules that have always been in place, they are just being cracked down on from here on out.
to an extreme! (n)

As someone said earlier, this is turning into girls field hockey. Officials will have blisters on their lips from calling fouls if it stays at this level.

the one advantage is that by the time a coach is halfway into whining about a call that went against him .. a call is made in his favor...

I cynically expect these new points of emphasis to be gradually de-emphasized as the season wears on, and by the end of the year the change will be marginal and barely noticeable.

Remember when Luke Hancock had two hands all over MCW and it wasn't called a foul? Yeah, I'm guessing most people here wouldn't have been complaining about this increased emphasis then.

I think this is a possibility, but this season might be different - we're hearing A LOT more about how the officiating is having an impact. Hopefully that means the impact is real, and when we start hearing fewer whistles it's not because the refs gave up, but because the players have figured it out.

I'll believe it when I see that Pitino has been forced to adopt an entirely new style of play

After finally looking at this link...it's funny, but it should be pointed out, not all of those are fouls. Like, some of them aren't even remotely fouls.

The problem is that they went from that extreme to what is now a brush to get a call.

No that should always be a foul and should have never been allowed...but some of the calls made this year have been really soft. Steering a player with your hands should be an automatic foul called, and I don't think anyone wants to see that let go.

So you expect Jimmy to go 9-10 deep Nov through Mid Dec, maybe 8 deep from Mid-Dec through end of Jan, and then 7 deep the rest of way. ;)

Cheers,
Neil

because people never over react? Coaches and players will adjust, as will the refs and everything will be normal come conference play.

I think there will be a new normal somewhere between where it is right now and last year.
