So, neither of these bump out Hopkins it seems. That's good news.
With JB official as an assistant coach you got to believe JB is coaching Syracuse Basketball through the 2015-2016 season. Coach K said he wouldn't return as USA coach without committing to Duke through the next cycle. I don't think JB would retire as SU coach and assistant on USA Senior Men's team.
My projected 12 man roster for 2016.
PG-Kyrie Irving, Derrick Rose
SG- James Harden, Russell Westbrook
SF- Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony
PF- Kevin Durant, Kevin Love
C- Blake Griffin, Anthony Davis
2 extra spots- Paul George, Stephon Curry
I don't see him returning and honestly if we need more height either DeMarcus Cousins or LaMarcus Aldridge bumping George or Curry. No D. Howard?
Hibbert is not eligible for Team USA he represented Jamaica at the FIBA qualifiers two years ago he is bound to Jamaica a la the rules of FIFA.The big question... is Mike Hopkins on board with waiting 3 more seasons or does he jump on the next HC job to open up? We'll see. BTW how about Hibbert for the 2014/16 USA team?

Yeah I went with Griffin because he committed to them last cycle. Bosh is a better FIBA fit than Griffin, and I think Aldridge is a younger Bosh and the best of the younger big guys to make the team.Pretty good list. I think Chris Paul will still be in the picture unless health is an issue. He's relatively young still. I'm not sold on Blake Griffin either. He's still just a high motor rebounder who's an unreal dunker. His lack of game outside 7 feet might lessen his effectiveness in the international game and its not like hes a great defender. I could see Hibbert, Bosh, Howard, Noah, Aldridge, or Lopez getting the nod over him.
Have no personal knowledge but Jim Lerch said on Bud & the Manchild this morning that the rules now require that only active coaches can be on the staff. That would seem to assure that JB stays thru then. With JB official as an assistant coach you got to believe JB is coaching Syracuse Basketball through the 2015-2016 season. I like Chris Paul, but the younger guys Irving, Westbrook, Rose will all better than them in 2016 IMO. If Dwight Howard is interested he will make the team, and if Hibbert cleans up his Jamaica problem I think he would make the team as well. 2014 is going to tough to win because the World Cup of Basketball is in Spain and unless we have don't have close to a full roster which we likely won't it will cause USA basketball to have to qualify in 2015 and play 3 summers in a row.
I love Noah for the team. I think he is eligible to play for France as well.Pretty good list. I think Chris Paul will still be in the picture unless health is an issue. He's relatively young still. Yeah the only teams that automatically qualify for the Olympics are the host country and the winner of the World Championships now called the World Cup of Basketball.Good point on projecting how each guy will be in 2016 not now. Paul has a history of knee issues so I could see him declining and maybe passing on the extra summer of wear and tear. I didn't know about that tournament being in Spain. That will make things tough. I always thought that if you won the gold you were automatically qualified or had a spot in the next Olympics. I don't really have anything to validate or justify that thought so I probably just created that clause in my head.

In 2014, there will be automatic bid and the World Cup being in Spain will be tough. I think Durant will play next year I doubt James, Anthony will play.
The 2014 roster will be IMO
PG-Kyrie Irving, Dion Waiters
SG- Stephon Curry, Eric Gordon, Klay Thompson
SF Kevin Durant, Andre Iguodala
PF- Anthony Davis, Derrick Favors
C- DeMarcus, Cousins, LaMarcus Aldridge
1 more guard.

This would have to a USA BB rule, not a FIBA rule. Regardless, it sounds off. I can't imagine Colangelo holding a gun to JB's head and making him commit to his day job for 3 more years.

IMO, Melo should retire from USA Basketball. He's done more than his fair share. By the time he's 32, he should be spending his summers resting up for the NBA season.
With a core of Durant, Curry, George, Love, Harden, Rose, A.Davis, we should still be a solid favorite for gold in Rio in 2016. Once guys like P.Gasol, Navarro, Calderon are too old to play for Spain, their team won't be as good as it's been for the past 6-8 years. I don't think Argentina's got a lot of young guys either.
Howard was generally regarded as the primadona of the last squad. He was not well liked at all. I would be shocked to see him play for the team again. No D. Howard?
Plus his inability to make a free throw drove the staff nuts in Beijing. He became a real liability towards the end of the close games (and there were some).Howard was generally regarded as the primadona of the last squad. He was not well liked at all.
