New Starting QB on Friday?

Makes no sense to play Carney this week. If he plays the next three that's OK - preserves his redshirt.

I recall someone posting that he wanted to redshirt this year.

Carney can only play 2 games he played vs Colgate and Pitt

I have no inside info but could Rich Belin get the nod at QB? Was a True freshman who was a two-time All-State QB and won the 2023 Gatorade POY for New York.

There's a better chance of you getting the NOD at QB on Friday.

I'd be surprised if Collins didn't play at all but seems highly likely they roll with Carney and potentially a third QB though I am skeptical beyond Collins and Carney. Jakari is listed as the 3rd QB but from what I have heard it's hard to see him seeing the field. Maybe they give Filardi a series or 2.

I am a big Filardi guy from his lax exploits. Still believe his future is there (he's a 5 star lax guy) but I'd love to see him get a shot at some point this year.

I'm skeptical to say the least, I know Fran has finally opened up the competition but he's gonna go from playing Ricky 98% of the time to essentially the 4th or 5th string QB? Clearly you have some inside info but I have to see it to believe it with Belin.

You know what WOULD have been cool? Take the most expendable freshmen OL, RBs, WRs/TEs, and Belin during that bye week and begin having them learn how to run an Army/Navy type offense for a few weeks... and then throw that at Belichick this weekend. What are the odds that he has ever had to scheme against something like that as an NFL coach? Plus, a short week to prepare for it this week too. You could start with our normal offense and go to that just to shake things up. Or.. .you could start with that... and then if/when they adjust to that... then we come back with our normal offense. Given that Army/Navy move the football with undersized offensive linemen... it would be a good opportunity to get some of our younger, smaller OL some game time experience without burning red shirts, etc. If we could bring in Dr. Blitz, why not Dr. Wing T/Option?

I get that this would take away from the scout team duties though. I am not sure we have the depth to do this in addition to the scout team. But it would sure have been interesting to see our 4th team befuddle Belichick for some or all of the game. This is why I am not a coach obviously...

You act as if we didn't play full time Wildcat with our TE just a couple years ago. Your idea has merit.

Fran is handling this very terrible situation as well as he could, if you ask me, maybe not perfect, but this is an impossible situation. Here what I think based on the timing, either they have green lighted Carney to run the offense and he’ll burn the redshirt, but get plenty of experience in the meantime. Or it’s one of the other freshmen that they have green lighted to run the offense and no matter what happens they will be able to gain experience and preserve the redshirt. You wonder in a different world if Angeli went down last week at Georgia Tech vs when he went down vs Clemson, if Rickie would’ve been the guy to take over. Perhaps they knew Rickie wasn’t the best in the QB room after Steve, but the timing called for them to see if he can prove them wrong. It seems they were protecting who was actually QB2 and is now ready to shine with a preserved redshirt and understanding of the playbook. Atleast this would be best case scenario for the S.
