New Traffic Pattern for Dome West Lots (Apr-Nov)

how do they issue less west lot passes for 2 games if people have season passes? That implies they have some they use that are not season passes?

This summer? His tour seems pretty setView attachment 262292
I dealt with this a lot when I lived in Ponte Vedra Beach with concerts and events either at my club or at the 2 venues at Jags stadium. Once a tour is set, other places negotiate with the artist “in between stops” and you get a discount on the artist because they are already “close”. That’s why you see late addictions to tours. We got Luke combs to the small venue in Jax for an event because he was traveling from Orlando to Atlanta and was passing through Jax and got him for 60% off. Thats what SU is working on right now is what I was told so look for additions near that Pittsburgh date

Thanks for the explanation. Would be phenomenal and my wife would be thrilled.

You’re welcome. I know the traffic stuff for concerts is always a big talking point, so I wonder how much this will impact that decision to have a concert here this summer. But it would be awesome for sure and finally someone under the age of 87 as a performer

It will be interesting to see how the new pattern works when 40K are trying to enter and exit the dome going forward as well.

Pete Sala, SU’s vice president and chief facilities officer, said the detours will be in place for May commencement, summer Dome events and two fall football games. The university will issue fewer parking permits in the lots west of the Dome for those two games, he said.

“It will be challenging for the first two football games, and it will be challenging for commencement,” Sala said.

But, he expects drivers to special events and commencement will need more help from city police directing traffic, he said.

He said the university is expected to announce a big summer event in the next few days. He said that will be the first real test of the system.
And the work won't finish on time, and it will impact more football games.

Wouldn’t it be better for folks to park on south and for the school to increase shuttle busses? Seems like it’s going to be a mess. I know it sucks for tailgaters but taking forever to leave sounds awful too.

So I know there has been some parking at the Dr King school in the past and people walked under 81. When 81 goes to ground what kind of area is that for people to do more parking over there. More like people do at the Saratoga or around the Bills games in peoples yards??

Like what is that lot at Burt and Oakwood? thats bigger than the Fine lot? its right off 11 and only 3-4 blocks to the big SU lots. Or the lot next to that on burt and mcbride?

Best thing about living in Syracuse was you could get anywhere in 12 minutes. The last 2 years of being back here have been absolute insanity. It took me 28 minutes yesterday to go from strathmore to my chiro at the top of the hill on Brighton which is about 3 miles. And don’t even get me started about the traffic circle. Amazing how few people know how a CIRCLE WORKS. The best part of the city is being ruined and whoever approved all these projects to think anything is an improvement needs their head examined

Social engineering through planned inconvenience. Why do you need a car when all of life is within walking distance.

Once 481 becomes 81, city becomes even more of an afterthought and “is it worth it” decision to do anything there, including going to games.

It will take time for people to grasp the traffic circles, but factually, they move traffic significantly quicker than lights and stop signs.

Wait till the project is finished - assessing it right now is like assessing our recruiting class before it’s finished.

Pretty sure I've seen recruits/families park in the West lots. There's also plenty of year round parking passes that the university can selectively honor; when I was a grad student my parking pass didn't always work to get me into games.

We also have some sort cooperation agreement with the VA garage to sell passes there; it's a pretty well known loophole that VA staff will park in the VA garage when they're going to a game and not the hospital. Nobody was ever going to stop that for obvious reasons but given the temporary burden maybe we asked them to crack down on that for two games.

That said I feel like that announcement is more of a "control reactions" than "actual mitigation."

Yeah this. It's a construction site and a huge one. No matter what solution we went with this part was never going to be anything but ugly and painful.

lol good point. Binghamton has several traffic circles especially by the university and this dates back to when I was there in 2004-2008 and there was never any issue with traffic so I agree with that

I think they already closed the underpass that connected Castle/MLK to Fineview and the stair walkway you could use to get past the train tracks.

Pretty sure the best and only ways to get over I 81 from west to east to the West lots will be the Colvin and Adams underpasses. Parking at MLK really is no longer a viable option. Even after this construction is completed.

I was wondering because i see very little in the details about how that lower part of 81 ends up other than the discussion of the roundabout thats being replaced. If 81 is just a street level road with sidewalks like the pictures why wouldnt people just walk over it other than the train track issue. Seems short sited to not give those people a way to get to the Dome.

That's the major concern. I can understand if they planned to end it by late August and said look it may impact 1 game maybe 2. In this case however, you know this is going to drag on much longer and they already planning on this going into mid Sept so that means probably late October if were lucky for an end date.

The Shuttles for Manley and Skytop are already a mess post game, add about 5K+ more people and you'll be better off walking home

This probably would have been a good thing to let people know better they bought parking passes.

I know it has to be done but this could have been handled better.

That is the Syracuse tag line the last few years - "Could have been handled better"

It's tough because tailgating is a lot of fun but parking decently far down Euclid and walking is by far the best. If you can handle 15min walk the side streets down that far are easy to get a spot and no traffic on your way home.
