Newton, where did that come from?

I think braswell looked terrible and he didn’t look like he has improved a lick in a year
He’s very stiff... Southerland was too so that doesn’t mean he can’t get there but Southerland also had very springy hops in addition to his shooting touch. Not sure Braswell has the same type of springs or general athleticism that dirty had.

Braswell needs to see one or two go down for him and I think he’ll settle in a bit and not press so much.

Yeah, Braswell just doesn't look comfortable moving in general. Southerland couldn't really change direction, but he could run and jump. Braswell doesn't really look comfortable if he isn't standing still.

Newton reminds me of what Southerland should have been. He's not as perimeter oriented, and has more potential as a stretch 4 who can finish inside. But the future looks bright. Also cool that he came in at 205 with a good frame, instead of being one of those 180 pounds stringbeans.

Kid runs like a gazelle, too.

We all know that JB values defense a ton. Woody made a big case for himself in this department. Not only that but the kid was very fundamentally sound. The old fashioned get your own miss play - warmed my heart personally. The kid understands the game very well and was obviously well coached coming onto campus.
One of my favorite plays from last night. Love that effort. Of course if he had missed the ball and they got a fast break runout because he hadn't been there, he'd be getting ripped for that. But I say go get it! No one knows better than a shooter where the ball is coming off. If you've got a straight path to the rebound, go get that damned ball!

Yeah, that's like 80% of my game these days. Missing shots and picking up my own trash...

Yeah- I had to stick to long distance running. Tried pickup for the first time in years back in December last year pre CoVid and although doing a lot better than expected I way overdid it. Can't yet succumb to playing the 40 yr old version of the game ( 3 yrs to hit that mark).

Thing is- Joseph was way more gunshy his first year. If you take CJ mentality with KJo style I think you get a Woody.

Uh hu hu You said woody - Beavis and Butthead Laughing | Meme Generator

Maybe he could have some McCullough upside?

I'm just surprised that the knock on Woody had been the motor, and then when we saw him yesterday one of the things that stood out was his motor.

So, like... he matured at a great time?

Strange take on a guy who was twice champion in the high jump in South Carolina.

I was going to say something similar. And South Carolina is not North Dakota. It produces a ton of great athletes every year. Robert has had some problems with his legs and I think it has affected his jumping ability.

Hope he gets over it soon and is 100%. Would love to see what he can do when he is right physically.

Yeah Braswell does look a little awkward out there on offense. We just need him to knock down some open jumpers

Was he not suffering from shin splints? They can really adversely affect jumping, good thing is they eventually go away, question is how long it takes. I cannot remember the reason for his med red shirt.

I worry Braswell still isn't healthy. He looked like he had very little lift on his jumper and was rejected by the rim. Good to see the dunk but he just didn't look right. Feel for the kid.

Why is it strange? I didn’t say he is incapable of jumping. Lol. I simply said he doesn’t have the hops of Southerland. And my eyes tell me that’s 100% true.

Weird post by you.

Southerland never won a high jump championship anywhere. You said Braswell had no springs or athleticism, his high jump championships say otherwise.

Weirder post by you.

I feel for him, too. The one positive I saw this game was he felt more in the flow against Niagara, even if the shots weren't falling. After a while, he knew he was going to be out there. He did get 3 rebounds, as well as commit a couple fouls. He was mixing up more than last time, when he seemed to quickly jack threes and then sit down. The shots didn't fall, but he was out there playing this time. Small steps. I hope he's not injured, too. I thought he just got his feet messed up a bit on that one shot, and got caught underneath the rim.

I actually didn't love his film, which of course, probably says more about my evaluation skills than Woody or his film, but the fact remains. But he played really well tonight. I liked that he moved his feet really well on a possession or two at the top of the zone. Definitely a kid that probably earned himself a little look after tonight.

I agree with you. I thought he looked pretty good, but he looked like a 4 that was still growing into his body.

His skill level has really improved. He looked like a legitimate 3 out there, and showed the quick reflexes to play some 2 on defense. Really liked it. He could be a great defensive sub late in games.
