He’s a hell of a singerTony Bennett if these guys don’t make it up to the hill.

All 3 are great.I’d just go after Jay Wright, Brad Stevens or Billy Donovan.
I should’ve used the sarcasm text, he would’ve just stayed at nova if he wanted to keep coaching. All 3 are great.
But: Jay Wright
The first call.
He has absolutely nothing to prove and highly doubt he would have any interest in coming to Syracuse or dealing witht what the college game has become.
But never hurts to ask the best first.
Yet Gmac as the next coach will pack the joint? If Red is the next coach I think we’ll have a new record low for season tickets.
Of course.I should’ve used the sarcasm text, he would’ve just stayed at nova if he wanted to keep coaching.
Agree you do make the call or use back channels. Due diligence. If he says no you have your answer. Maybe he is missing the sidelines some and entertains a call. Maybe he takes the call as a courtesy and provides JW with a name or 2 that was not on his radar or he had out of his top 5.Of course.
But if you don't ask you'll never get.
Impossible.
But worth a ten second phone call.
(Although he might hang up the phone even faster than that).
the number will be even lower if Gmac got the nod, if we stay in house it’ll be more of the same.Yet Gmac as the next coach will pack the joint?
Wright is more than a hail mary, it’s impossible. If he wanted to coach again he would’ve never left nova. He’s not urban Meyer. Maybe he goes D2 like Calhoun does? But he’ll never coach a D1 school not named Nova.Wright deserves a call. Is it a hail mary? Yes, but still worth a shot.
Probably a pipe dream but getting Hop back as an assistant under Wright would be the dream come true for me IMHO.
Disagree. Coaches step away from the game (using that generally for any sport) and are convinced to come back either due to money, boredom, competition, their wives kicking them out or you name it. Does that mean he will? Maybe he will or maybe he won't.Wright is more than a hail mary, it’s impossible. If he wanted to coach again he would’ve never left nova. He’s not urban Meyer. All I’m saying is Nova is the only place he’d go back to. They’re in the same boat as Syracuse, and they paid him far more.Disagree. I like Buzz but I’m fairly sure aTm has a sizable buyout protecting his contract. They have deep coffers and are not afraid to use them.I also love Buzz Williams. He’s a program builder. He’s turned programs around and won at every place he’s been. He now has Texas A&M in the top 25second place in the SEC after only a few years. The guy is charismatic, he can coach and recruit, knows how to build a culture and players love him. And he tends to prefer to move around and build programs. The only issue is that he’s back home in Texas, so he may not want you leave for another few years. We’ll see. He could win at Syracuse and he respects JB and our program. He’s coached in the ACC before and he might see the upside here with the rich history, the facilities, revenue potential, fan support and basketball being the priority/big game in town.
You call Jay wright, tell him to name his price, and resort to begging if need be. Do the same with Miller if Wright declines. Lastly, hit for Cooley or Langel if those don't pan out.
Done.
Nope it doesnt, but what you said is exactly why he left. I dont see it. But former coaches are notorious mind changes. Always worth an overtureHe has absolutely nothing to prove and highly doubt he would have any interest in coming to Syracuse or dealing witht what the college game has become.

What else did Jay tell you when you spoke to him about it?Wright is more than a hail mary, it’s impossible. If he wanted to coach again he would’ve never left nova. He’s not urban Meyer. Maybe he goes D2 like Calhoun does? But he’ll never coach a D1 school not named Nova.
I hear you, but just because it's unusual doesn't mean it can't happen. I'm not saying it will happen either; however, that might be a backdoor option if JW isn't satisfied with his options at the time. You don’t name an interim coach during the offseason.
It would be a horrible move. It’s actually not a viable option. You either name Red as Head Coach or you find an external candidate. You don’t punt for a year with an interim title. There’s no advantage in doing so and a whole lot of downside.I hear you, but just because it's unusual doesn't mean it can't happen. And it can’t be anyone but Red, he’s more qualified and if you hire a white guy with less experience you can absolutely kiss recruiting goodbye. It would be a horrible move. I love Red but he plays in the same stagnant offense we See now. Also can he change rotation of zone to improve or man all the way.It will be Red. Forget about dropping names of coaches outside the program.
So what you’re saying is…..Timing could work out well with Easter and the Resurrection coming up in a month
