Big game, prime time, national showcase, against a top 10 team, coming off an absurd loss in which your coaching abilities are coming under extreme scrutiny.

Will the players execute?
Will the mistakes be cut down?
Will we compete or just go down by 2-3 scores at halftime?

Shafer and co. are in the big time now and next week the spotlight comes out.

Plus, I'm flying up for the game so get it together!!

We'll get our ass kicked most likely.

Next week will show you a lot?

They will either show us all alot...or...confirm all of our worst fears.

One way or the other we will know if there is reason to have hope with this coaching staff going forward

If we do win, is the message just as much that the staff is never going to be very good. To show up at home and play poorly again, even if they beat ND. Feels like it just shows the staff is incredibly inconsistent and that isn't a good thing.

When's the last time we had a big win like this would be? Seems all these other teams like us can get one but we just get smoked by 30.

I'm being a because I'm so frustrated, so I'll apologize for my posts above...

If we win it will at least show something. The inconsistency is very frustrating though. I expected a really hard fought game today and I think it still could have been. If we had lost playing well I would hate that but could at least see the light. Right now it's hard to find any positives because every year since Grob we've been promising ourselves that we are "turning the corner".

This is the biggest freaking carousel I've ever been on.

I agree. Today was the biggest "What did I just watch" in a long time. We look more talented, we move the ball, we look the part but penalties, questionable coaching, turnovers, mistakes, players not on the right page, it's just a lot to take in. It's like we traded some brains for talent and the end result is the same bs we've witnessed for years.

I don't expect to win the game, but I need the coaches to put the players in position to give us the best shot to win.

I want us to push the pace, no drive-killing penalties, reduce the rotation of offensive players and be solid on special teams.

I really need to feel confident in the coaching staff during these games and right now I don't have that in any facet of the game.

Today was only one game, so let's get back to work and beat ND.

It's been so long since I've been optimistic going into a football season that I have a hard time looking at the bright side. So few bright sides.

So consider the source when you read this...I thought the 2nd half today was going to show us what this team is made of. Consequently I see at best another very average season.

It has been an important game ever since it hit the schedule. The fact that it is prime time makes it even more so.

Ordinarily, I would say that if we lose - no big deal so long as it is not a blowout. If we win, it is a very big deal for the program.

This time, I think we have almost as much to lose as we have to win. The program is stuck in the perception of mediocrity and losing will only reinforce that. If it is a blowout it could slow the mo in recruiting. On the other hand, winning will turn heads on a national stage at a time when ND football is considered as back to big-time.

Maybe that is only my perception and maybe not.

I think you're dead on.

I actually thought the defense did a better job overall in the 2nd half but I agree, I am not going into any game confident at all.

Yeah, I don't mean to sound like I'm giving up. But I feel like we are playing checkers while our opposing coaches are playing chess.

I do agree, the defense did seem to step up. We got the ball back in the 2H and if we had scored in any capacity, it would have made it interesting at least.

I don't see ND as being in the blowout category that FSU and Clemson were last year. If we lose we should be able to stay within 14-17 points

I agree but im tempering my expectations since it seemed Maryland was playing keep the clock running mode from mid 3rd quarter on not score

We got blowout by Northwestern and Georgia Tech too lol.

I do think ND is better than MD. We can't let them get up 2 or 3 scores.

northwestern was actually good at that point, GT was a coaching breakdown
That's what I'm saying though. We're capable of getting blown out by teams lesser than FSU and Clemson haha.
