Next week will show me a lot about this staff

If we don't win one of these MetLife games soon I am going to change my mind about them.

If we do win, is the message just as much that the staff is never going to be very good. To show up at home and play poorly again, even if they beat ND. Feels like it just shows the staff is incredibly inconsistent and that isn't a good thing.
Not so much about the win or loss. SU can lose next week and the staff can still do a good job. Cut down the mistakes, reduce the mental errors, call a good game. IF they lose a tough one, that's fine just dont' look like they did today

so your saying with only have 5000 fans at the game?

80% ND.

But the signage will be SU!

Whatever. SU plays a tough one and loses and this board will crucify them. The "they don't have to win" post is the biggest message board B.S.

I think we will have more than 20% --- 30-40%

No chance at all at 40%.

SU never brings more than 20-25K to an NYC game.

I'm being a because I'm so frustrated, so I'll apologize for my posts above...

If we win it will at least show something. The inconsistency is very frustrating though. I expected a really hard fought game today and I think it still could have been. If we had lost playing well I would hate that but could at least see the light. Right now it's hard to find any positives because every year since Grob we've been promising ourselves that we are "turning the corner".

This is the biggest freaking carousel I've ever been on.
While Louisville has a coaching change and seemingly does not miss a beat. It's very frustrating to be in middle of a 10 yr rebuilding process. I like shafer but this is what happens when you don't hire the "name"

True but on the other hand, we didn't start all over again. We were in a pretty good position. We hired from within and Shafer was able to hire people he knew very quickly. This was not a rebuild in any way and more of a continuation of staff. That's what makes this frustrating because it feels like we've been talking about some of the same issues since the start of Marrone.

They lost to a mediocre Virginia team last week. Beat missed.

Right,we as fans didn't start over again, but in the eyes of recruits we did. At least I think so. I don't think Shafer was a household name 2 years ago. Petrino, sadly, was/is. Personal opinions of what he did aside, I think name recognition counts for something in media coverage and recruiting .

I'm going to be realistic about the ND game. This SU team has deficiencies which is why we can't allow for silly mistakes. Our secondary is going to be severely challenged, especially because CB blitzes so much and we don't have the level of talent/speed in our secondary to compensate. Golson's gonna have a field day against our D, I think. CB will try to get pressure to him but those are situations where a mobile QB can have an advantage either by running or finding receivers downfield - this happens much too often IMO. I can only hope for a Geno Smith like performance from Golson and that our offense continues its upward trajectory.

Honestly, I think Maryland is as talented as ND offensively. ND, however, has a much better defense.

not saying much maryland's defense was pretty bad as seen by us having 375 yards in first half

I've watched college football long enough to know anything can happen. I thought we'd win at ND in 2008? With that said I'm not hopeful, blindly optimistic is a better description.

Big game, prime time, national showcase, against a top 10 team, coming off an absurd loss in which your coaching abilities are coming under extreme scrutiny.

Will the players execute?
Will the mistakes be cut down?
Will we compete or just go down by 2-3 scores at halftime?

Shafer and co. are in the big time now and next week the spotlight comes out.

Plus, I'm flying up for the game so get it together!!
I'm hoping that ND is looking ahead to Stanford the following week and takes this game really lightly, then maybe, just maybe SU steals one.

Only chance

I wouldn't say its the only chance we could have a perfect game on offense with time consuming drives finished off with tds
They are putting 35 on us. Can we answer with 36?

Not only that but they couldn't even put up 300 yards of total offense ... yuck.

Prepare to be dissappointed... I wish there was a way for this game to be not prime time so we are not embarrassed on national tv
