Who's that?Luke Murray.
Who's that?Luke Murray.
The Nate Oats to SU ship has sailed. He wouldn’t want SU and we cannot afford him. Please stop, although it is amusing that some think it’s possible.I wouldn't vote for any of their 4 choices nor your 5th choice. While I'd love to see GMac as our coach I don't think that is going to happen this soon. Why isn't a choice to hire an experienced (not Old) coach like Nate Oats? Why sell ourselves short? Maybe the money can be raised to do that. But why eliminate that as a possibility? That I would vote for. I'd suggest that your 4 or 5 choices sell ourselves short. We should be thinking more positively, starting of course with getting a new coach for next year.
Bill Murray's son.Who's that?
Asst at UConn?Bill Murray's son.
I get probably not him. But is there anyone out there about his age who is a successful coach that maybe we can get? I stipulated that it assumes we could raise the money to pay the coach. But my overall point is let's not limit a poll like this to small thinking. The Nate Oats to SU ship has sailed. He wouldn’t want SU and we cannot afford him. Gerry was on the same staff as Autry that was a part of the downward slide that we have seen in the last 10 years, no thanks. This is why a clean break from the Boeheim tree is necessary.I’m definitely not trolling. I’m laying out a straightforward argument based on what GMac has actually accomplished. The Siena turnaround is real, the resume at Syracuse is real and the idea that he should at least get them to the NCAA Tournament before being handed the keys is a perfectly reasonable standard.
I’m not trying to stir anything up. I just think if you look at the full picture, he’s earned the right to be in this conversation.
Yes really highly regarded. Wouldn't be my first choice, but intriguing.Asst at UConn?
I think you got the orange goggles on. I live in the area and no one cares. Turning around a 4-28 program in the MAC doesn’t mean he can put Cuse in the tourney any time soon.I’m definitely not trolling. If GMac wasn't an alum would he be on anyone's radar for this job?I’m definitely not trolling. I’m laying out a straightforward argument based on what GMac has actually accomplished. He won’t and he won’t.If Gmac wins the MAAC and goes to the tournament he will get a hard look
Gerry- Head Coach
Hop- Top assistant
Arinze- Bigs
Whoever else Gerry wants
I mean it’s no different than it was the last 2 years of JB’s tenure. This is basically professional sports now. If the team and coaches are capable they should have the ability to block this out. This poll just continues the negative vibes that’s effecting this year’s team.
I'm not sure anyone (or hardly anyone based on the poll above) thinks that. I hope we make the tournament because the team has some good players and I'd hate to waste someone like William Kyle's talent. It's a weird headspace to be in because there is still a tiny bit of hope of salvaging the season, unlike last year.I just can’t believe people have watched the product on the court the last three years and still like I need to give it more time I think Red can coach. It’s like they refuse to believe what their eyes have shown them for three years
Katie?Long time reader. First time poster. GMac is the obvious choice and the fact we’re pretending otherwise is insane. As long as he finishes the job at Siena and gets them to the NCAA Tournament. That’s the one box left to check and he’s already pushing the door down. 10 win improvement in Year 1, first Siena coach in 42 years to start 3-0, national finalist for the Joe B. Hall Award, and he built a roster from scratch that’s tied for first in the MAAC at 9-3.
And that’s before you even get to the Syracuse resume. 16 years on staff, nine NCAA Tournaments, two Final Fours, and a massive role in developing guards like MCW, Ennis, Battle, Buddy, Hughes and Swider. Add in his Northeast recruiting ties, his film room grind and the fact that players trust him. He’s been the backbone of this program for over a decade. He knows Syracuse. He’s proven he can run his own program. He bleeds Orange. This isn’t nostalgia it’s logic.
But he’s got to punch that ticket with Siena first. Do that, and there’s no debate left.
nate oaks, pitino. We should have gone after nate years agoLets project some here and see where people are with their coach search expectations... In theory lets say
-Red Misses NCCAA tourney again but team improves its record
-Gerry leads Siena to MAAC title and NCAA tourney
Can only do 4 choices.. Other choice would be hire and Old Head with limited years like Pitino
Amazingly, every single person you listed has a 0% chance of being the head coach at Syracuse.nate oaks, pitino. We should have gone after nate years ago
Any hurley
