Next year two deep

I'm really excited to see what JRS can do with a full healthy year. hard to put him on the 2 line of a 2 deep. Its really good to see how deep we are at the position to see with guys like JRS and Ross on the 2nd line. In recent years they would have been 1-2 WR overall

Agree. The question is, do we (or will we) have a QB who can check down fast enough to dime these talented receivers? Separation isn't the problem; it's the gunslinger.

I don't know if that's necessarily true. SU had a high percentage of contested balls caught and that to me says there wasn't a lot of separation.

I'm optimistic that the coaches have the off season to evaluate their work and make adjustments. I am confident Coach Fran will make sure things will improve. The players and coaches have a season of experience under their belts to measure from. The thread tep624 has regarding 23-24 transfers and where they landed and how successful they were tells much about our past talent level. I still believe we are in the process of developing depth and are better but inexperienced in some areas.

Yeah, I'd be curious to see if the offense changes at all to allow whomever the QB is to throw into more space. If they can get yards from a bubble screen offense, I'm fine with that.

The throws Kyle was asked to make are likely too advanced for most college QBs, let alone whatever young guy steps up for 2025.

Here is my best guess at this point.

QB - Williams, Collins, Carney

I'm now guessing Williams beats out Collins, Staff must think they have something there to only bring in Collins so soon who seems more of a competition piece than an assumed starter. But really just an educated guess at this point.

RB - Willis OR Nixon, Hart
WR1 - Zeed Haynes, Hatcher OR Emmanuel Ross
WR2 - Gill OR JRS, Jaylan Hornsby
WR3 (Slot) - Pena, C Long OR Ja'Meer Thomas

At WR people seem to be forgetting about Zeed. Zeed Haynes is coming off injury but was our #1 WR before being injured in 2024. He starts, assuming he returns which i would guess he does.

TE - Tremble, Villari, Clement OR Washington-Baker

At TE I like Villari as an athlete but think he is not good enough at route running and catching to start as a TE. Tremble is TE1.

OT1 - Wohlabaugh, Mack
OT2 - Weatherspoon, E Cruz, Vito Shevchenko
OG1 - Bradford, Travis Brown Miller
OG2 - Petry, Joe Cruz,
C - Hornsby?, ?

DT1 - Dion "Tank" Wilson OR Watson, Elijah Fuentes-Cundiff
DT2 - Perry OR C. Thomas, Hastings
DE1 - Jobity, KJE
DE2 - Jaquez OR Simmons
EDGE - David O., Lesaine Jr

LB1 - Heard OR McDonald, Caden Brown
LB2 - ZMG, Deslauries

At LB I think Deslauries starts around mid season after getting some reps behind ZMG to start.
Don't know why we didn't see ZMG this year. He looked really good in the spring game. I think McDonald may share reps with somebody to start, probably Heard.

CB1 - Kerr, Delaine
CB2 - Ibn McDaniels, Kaylib Singleton, Martin
Star - Grant, Rayshon Andrews
S1 - Buxton OR Demetres Samuel Jr., Perry
S2 - Chestnut, M. Washington OR Long

At the DB spots I think we get quite a few on the 2 deep and get them some PT but none will be the starter at the beginning of the season.
I think Josh Miller has a better chance to make the 2 deep than TB Miller... TB didn't even dress for games this past year.
Also... Bradford's status is still unknown as far as I know.

5 very underrated recruits that were significant contributor's last season. Obviously, there were more youngsters that contributed but they were more highly rated. This staff is thorough in their evaluations and given the fact that almost all of the underrated kids we are bringing in are from our primary territory where the staff has deep contacts and or kids that showed out for the staff during a camp I'm not at all worried about the stars.

Ah I forgot that Josh Miller withdrew his name from the transfer portal. Added him.

I think Fran believes he can get DB's playable pretty quickly. See Barnes, Kerr and McDaniels at the end of the year. Actually even Braheem Long played some in 2024 as well. Thats all 4 DB's in the 2024 class.

Revised my chart to move Joe Cruz to starting and Josh miller as a back-up

Petry can come back he was a juco guy so he has another year.

Ah. Confusing. That was what I was thinking but I just saw I think an OE numbers post or something recently that said he was out of eligibility. That must have been before the Juco ruling happened. Juco 2019. 2020 didn't happen. 2021 redshirt gives him another year. I edited mine above to keep him in it.

Do we know if Kahlil Stewart is enrolling this semester?

I know it’s rare and not ideal to have OL play as true freshmen (especially on good teams), and I know we don’t want to “burn” a redshirt for a kid at the most likely position to use their full eligibility.

But is it crazy to think a 6’4, 290lb true Centre from a top HS program with 8 months of (dedicated) S&C might be able to contribute?

It’s probably crazy.

I just checked out his twitter profile and there are no posts showing him moving in or walking around on campus, like you would expect if he started classes Monday.

It is unfortunate because if he was an early enrollee, he would have a legit chance to win the starting center job as a true frosh.

You really like to have an experience OL as your center. I wonder if the staff moves Petry there? He is a little undersized for OG and no one on the OL has the experience he does.

I will be very interested to see who lines up at center when we start getting pictures of spring practice…..

Petry and Hornsby seem like the natural candidates. I'd be curious if Josh Miller gets a shot. He left the portal but seems a bit behind at Tackle. Has enough size for C now.

Agree. I believe Wohlabaugh played some center in HS and with his family history, he might also get a look. But we need OTs too.

The most likely thing to me is that we pick up a center in the portal port spring. After all the battles for starting positions have ended, a bunch of players will head to the portal.

We will lose some and gain some. I suspect one of the guys we add will be a center.

i agree but Gill and Pena got separation. Meeks and Gadsen are really 4.6 guys and wouldnt get that much. Haynes next year with Gill and Pena will give us a really nice deep threat. That group screams separation lol.

As a few on here have said, that is the hardest position to learn next to Qb in my opinion. U have to read blitzes and call out all adjustments that young guys just dont have experience with. Not to mention how hard physcally it is going against the 1 shades that he is gonna have to go against next year. Some of them are 24 and 25 years old. 18 year old doing that scares the s outta me for the kid ya know.

Wohlabaugh has cross trained here at Center. I would think he and Hornsby are prime candidates to move to the middle.

i dont know but i think they are using Hornsby there and why we didnt push for our old center back. The money vs the play wasnt worth it in my thinking.

when you run so many routes in the shallow side of the field how much separation will you get,

Even Kyle said when he saw 1-1 matchups he trusted the 50/50 balls to his guys. Its not like we threw a ton of 15-25 yd throws either and we never really had much deep stuff that was wide open.

What is really lost in translation is that early throws with smaller windows is the same as longer throws to bigger windows if you are accurate like Kyle was. I dont think the separation metrics really look at throwing windows all that much for the type of throw either. They consider all throws equally

What is this zeed injury you speak of? He had family issues.

I would think Wohlabaugh has what it takes to be a C but I really hope Hornsby can do it so we don't have to displace a solid OT. Seems like we'd just be plugging a hole and creating another one. Hopefully Wohlabaugh would just be the back-up C incase something happens to Hornsby. But better yet would be finding a solid C with some experience via the portal.

Agreed. And Kyle loves those back shoulder throws that he is so good at. Those were great for us this year as with those you don't need to protect as long. Those I would guess all go under the contested category.
