Next year...

6 Under Armour AA's coming in.

The return of Nicky Galasso and Brandon Mullins.

Got to replace JoJo and Luke on offense, and Hamlin, Megill, Ianzito and Pratt on D.

And we need to find a FOGO.

And we're golden. :D
How successful has Desko been finding a face-off guy in the last 5 years? I'm scared to death that we'll see next year's roster and it will be the same bunch of guys who couldn't win the draw against Sister Mary Elephant.

OMG, a FOGO, yes. For pete sake, a program at this level and we get humped all year at the X. Great season but disappointing (speaking only of the title game) that possessions were so one-sided. Also, Lamo did not have a very good second half, IMO.

How disappointing...a final 4 win and loss in the NC...yup, disappointing NOT.
My congrats to everyone connected to the Men's lacrosse team (and the Women's too). Just amazing to have both teams in the final four and NC game...by the way what other university did this...I think NONE THIS YEAR!

Hopefully, the Men's team will find someone to win at the X--loss of such a significant percentage of possessions cannot lead to success.

After this game I can truly say: It's Good to be 'Cuse!!!!

We lose Fazio and Commetti to I think.

For as stacked as we might seem it's sure going to be an interesting off season. With the addition of Staats and Galasso someone currently at attack is going to have to sit. Maltz, Ward, Donahue, and Rice. None of these players can play midfield either.

Defensively we lose some great players. I like the returning corp of Young, McCartney, Harris and Mullins. We have 4 youngsters who've been waiting their turn. I assume Palesak will be ok and on the team next season.

Goal should be fine as we return everybody.

Middie is the position that's going to be real interesting. Of the returners on the first two lines all had their moments but no one really stood out. IMO, Lecky shows glimpses of star potential but he also makes a lot of mistakes. So we have Lecky, Schoonmaker, and Loy. Schoon also had moments of coming into his own but wasn't consistent and he played a lot both ways and which I really like but he could potentially move to D-Mid full time next season like Pratt did. You're talking 3 or 4 middie positions up for grabs by a bunch of kids who really haven't played much.

Laxpower has SU bringing in 8 middies, if you include Evans who is listed as both. Seems like there will be lots of options there including those moving to Dmid.

Maltz, Dylan - Attack
Weston, Nick - Attack
Lane, Matt - Attack
Thorpe, Gale - Attack
Staats, Randy - Attack
Evans, Jordan - Attack/Midfield
McGinley, Hayes - Midfield
Hollenback, Tommy - Midfield
Gillis, Joe - Midfield
Schmidt, Spencer - Midfield
Forkin, James - Midfield
Simmons, Ryan - Midfield
Nash, Syrrus - Midfield
Firman, Scott - Defense
Wyrick, Jimmy - Defense/LSM
Manning, Niko - LSM
Ferrigan, Parker - Goalie

I wonder if Gale Thorpe has he legs to play middie next year as his Dad played mid.

I gotta believe if Evans sees the field next it's as a middie. Figure none of other kids break in at attack next year, if they do then wow.

In addition take a look at the roster, there are a ton of middies - like 18 or 19.

Evans will play midfield next year, I think he may eventually get moved back to attack but I dont see how he can start out at attack based on how the roster is looking. If both Daniello and Galasso make it back healthy, Desko is goign to have some tough choices. Going to be hard to find a lot of playing time for guys like Billy Ward, Rice, and any potential emerging seniors that Desko likes to lean on in there last years ie a Pat Powderly type.

Starting attack will surely be Maltz, Staats, and Galasso with Donahue being the 4th guy. Starting mids are likely to be Loy, Schoomaker and Evans, with a ton of depth behind them in Walters (dark horse to start next year), Dejoe, Thorpe (a lot of people high on him), Daniello etc.

I think Grimm and Messina will be the two most likely starting short stick D guys and they probably move Lecky as well. With 3 years in the program I dotn think they can wait for Lecky to get it figured out, to much Talent coming in and behind him they wont be able to keep off the field. Also dont forget guys like Hatem, Gillis etc who didnt see much if any playing time, could be interesting to see if any of them take that next step.

One thing that I suspect we will see a lot of is transfers over the summer and into the fall leaving the program. The writing is on the wall for a lot of these guys, the incoming class is going to be hard to keep on the field. Fingers crossed Palasek is still on the team, we need him next year with the loss of Hamlin and Megill.

Drew Jenkins will be a Senior next season. He will still be in the mix at SSDM, along with Daquan Rockett.

I know Jenkins will be back but I dont see how he gets much PT. Hes way overmatched and SU should have a lot more options based on the #'s of offensive players who will struggle to get on the field. I dont know much about Rockett to be honest.

Obviously it would be wrong, but I hope somebody from the SU staff atleast send a feeler out to Massa at Bryant and saw if he was interested. I realize Pressler probably has told him the big boys will come calling, but I would take Massa as part of a package deal to get him. He was so good on the FO that we gave up after 2 violations both halfs.

Not going to happen, his brother joins the team next year and hes a big fan of Pressler.

I'm not so sure Maltz is set in stone - I don't think he had a great season and how much is he bringing to the table? He can't dodge or feed he's just a bigger kid who sets up on the crease but not really much else. I see him staying put but I think every spot is up for grabs. Fall ball is going to be fierce for sure.

What happens with Lecky and Schoonmaker is going to be interesting as well. We haven't really seen Lecky play defense but we've seen Schoon play D and with his size a case could be made to move him. It'll be interesting for sure because those two players are probably the best middie iso dodgers who are returning - that ive seen anyways. They were the two who could alley dodge and shoot on the move.

I think what's holding Lecky back is playing to much 'me' ball. He seems to freelance and maybe force things too much instead of letting it come. Lack of lax IQ? I almost get the feeling like he knows he's only going to be on the field briefly so its like he needs to get 'his'.

I pretty much agree with your thoughts on Maltz. To be honest I was dissapointed that he didnt have a bigger year. He seemed to get stoned on the doorstep at least once every game and while he flashed a mid range shot every know and then he seemed to dissapear for long stretches on offense. That being said two factors hurt him throughout the entire season. 1. He was being faceguarded more then half the time and drew a lot of attention as SU's best inside guy, Duke put there best close defender on him yesterday. 2. Maltz is a good player but he needs a feeder to draw attention so he can get open looks. JoJo was great but he was looking more for cutters comign from up top and JoJo didnt always draw the double because he wasnt a huge threat to score. Next year with Galasso and Staats, I expect Maltz to have Keough type numbers. He also needs to work on his shooting in close, way to many saves made against him this year.

With Lecky and Schoonmaker I think its a matter of additional maturation and an ability to perform with some consistency. I still think Lecky should be moved to short stick Middie, there he coudl use his athleticisim and speed and also have the ability to score in transition the way Ianzito and Pratt did. Much like Maltz Schoonie is going to have a lot of oppportunities with Defenses looking to stop Staats, Evans, Galasso etc, I think he will be a starting mid next year but needs more consistency, he dissappeared for large streches this year.

Not sure why you would assume Rice is going to be on the outside looking in next year.

I'll jump in, no SU is not the team to beat. Duke is the team to beat followed a group of Maryland, UNC and SU.
