Sorry for Gbinije & Cooney, but next year is when the program returns to the level that we had seen it a couple years ago, in my opinion.

I don't think the team has the firepower in the middle of the zone this year. Would love to be proven wrong, and I do think we can make the Tournament and anything can happen there, as we have seen, but I'm not sure we will have the ability to play with the top teams in the country this year.

Gbinije & Cooney are two pretty big losses but I think we are going to be stacked next year. Here's what the lineup could look like next year:

G - Battle (#38 Player in 2016)
G - Richardson (#23 Player in 2015)
- Lydon (#76 Player in 2015)
- Roberson (#31 Player in 2013)
C - Coleman (#14 Player in 2012)

Bench
Chukwu (#61 Player in 2014)
Joseph (#50 Player in 2014)
Moyer (#54 Player in 2016)
Howard (#94 Player in 2015)
Obokoh

If Coleman does not come back (which is a distinct possibility), Taurean Thompson could be the 10th.

That's an incredibly strong 9/10 players, in my opinion.

I think Moyer will challenge Lydon. Lydon is a terrific athlete, but Moyer has a killer instinct.

I don't think Coleman will be here. I think Chukwu starts from Day One (as Bees likes to say).

We will be young, but that's a hell of a team. If we can keep the bulk of them, give us the next recruiting class to reload, and we'll be elite again.

This is The Cuse. You never sell a year short. Even with 9 this year we will be a player. Can any real Cuse fan refute that given our history?

I wouldn't be entirely surprised if Roberson goes NBA after this season and Lydon becomes the starting PF with Moyer at SF.

I actually hope Roberson goes pro after this year. Not because I want him to be gone, but because entering the draft after your Senior season is a death sentence these days. I expect Gbinije to put up big numbers and still get overlooked by almost everybody, unfortunately.

generally agree, but just look at Rak to counter that

Actually yes, if you go based on recent history.

(depends on what it means to be a "player")

Not sure if you mean NBA, but I just don't think Roberson is skilled enough to play in the NBA. CJ Fair was a much more skilled player, and he wasn't drafted. He's a really good rebounder, and athletic, but at 6-8, he doesn't have a position in the NBA.

It always is

Im always amused by these...especially this one since three of your starting five have yet to play a minute of college ball, and the fourth guy is Dajuan Coleman.

11-12 was the year until 12-13 came around.
01-02 was the year until 02-03 came around.
You never know. 7'2 two 6'8 guys who dribble like guards, Lots of outside shooters, guards need to work on their defense in the offseason but lots to love.

Roberson,Lydon,Moyer,Battle
Battle,Kaleb,Malachi,Howard
Chuckwu,Obokoh, Maybe we find a 3rd Center.

That team has the potential to bring 40 minutes of hell fire defense and keep everyone under 30 mpg.
They also have the potential to graduate Roberson, Obokoh and send Battle, Malachi, Kaleb, Moyer,Lydon and Chuckwu to the NBA leaving us with A one man wrecking crew the year after of...
Howard
And we wouldn't mind that if it brought home the trophey.
Love this years team though, they are going to run a fun offense and bring alot of firepower. Centers just need to hold up defensively.

You're overstating Fair's ability. To this point in their careers, there's very little that separates them. CJ Fair was good at a lot of things, elite at none. Roberson is a potentially elite college rebounder, and that could be enough to get onto an NBA team. He'd be on the lower side of average height and weight, but not outside of the range of an NBA PF. His length helps.

I'm saying that a strong season this year (10 and 10) could get him in the draft conversation. If it does, I say he should go.

Fair could shoot and handle the ball and was a decent rebounder. Roberson can't shoot at all or handle the ball. He's a strong rebounder, but at 6-8, I don't think that alone gets him drafted.

Roberson will come into his own I think, hes just a late bloomer like Rak. Fair and Joseph didn't shoot any 3's to they were Juniors either. Roberson has the ability to punish you slowing down his moves in the lane for a forward, is excellent at keeping the ball high, and plays better solid defense then Fair or Joseph. He has a better dribble and shot then we have seen, but is still working out his shot mechanics. Fair and Joseph got bumped around alot in the lane and it took a toll on them on both sides of the ball, I would rather see Roberson rest some this year and keep his marathon/tough defensive look for next year. I think Roberson has more point forward in him then he realizes as well.

As far as the NBA is concerned it's better to have one elite skill than several good, ones.

I think Roberson will be a very good college player, but he will likely be at Syracuse through his senior year. Rak used that 4th year to become a very good player, but he also had NBA measurables. Right now, Roberson still doesn't even have a mid-range game he can rely on. I think he will get better, but I don't think he's getting drafted. McAdoo from UNC was similar. Very athletic, but no real moves, a little undersized and couldn't shoot a jumper.

You beat me to the punch. I think there is a decent chance Roberson will be a first round draft pick next June.

Fair's ballhandling was suspect and we haven't seen enough of Roberson's jumper to definitively say he can't shoot. Fair couldn't make 3's until his junior season after all. Improved offensive output and continued success on the boards and defense could do the trick. Roberson is a 4 that plays like a 4. Nothing about Fair was a PF.
