NFL owners are the real welfare queens look at Mark Davis or whomever owns the Titans getting a new stadium. Only makes sense to start giving them academic institutions as well.
Things happen when a vacuum is created. The amt of idiot owners is balanced by the very smart progressive owners like Bob Kraft. I bet you he's thinking of ways to leverage the free option minor leagus of college football. If the option becomes slightly more than free and they can make a buck on it, they'll def get involved.

I wouldn't discount this. The NFL is the strongest entertainment business in the world. It's not even hyperbole at this point. How they leverage that further is an interesting thought.

The NBA is trying to do that with much smaller rosters and operating costs and has failed bc noone has any interest in minor league hoops they like college much more.

Kraft is the worst owner in the MLS for what its worth and I wouldn't count on him to get the next hire right even if he went 3/3 on Parcells/Carrol/Belichick. Most of these guys are idiots like Dan Snyder and as I said welfare queens Kraft at least built his stadium himself Green Bay has the best owner (none lol.)

The question is when will the NBA and NFL go the NHL route and let guys get drafted out of HS and then play college sports afterwards. It's probably going to happen and its long overdue. Hockey players also become free agents after 4 years in college and can tell the team who drafted them to off and sign with anyone they want. Pro and college hockey players are pretty much unanimously rich white kids who's parents have the funds and time to put them in 3-4 leagues and drive them to multiple practices per day its not exactly coincidental that they have more leverage and control over their careers than basketball and football players.

Regarding Hail Mary #2, they'd have to wait for all the GoRs to expire because they're contracts between the schools and the conferences, not not between the schools and Fox or Disney. The conferences enter into the TV contracts with Fox and Disney once their member schools sign over their rights.

#2 could happen if the schools announce they no longer play football within the NCAA. In some conferences, that would trigger expulsion because they require their members to play football within the conference or be expelled. Legally IRT the GoRs, it could be one thing for a school to try to leave a conference and another thing for a school to be expelled from one (at least that's the argument the schools' lawyers would make).

Cuban was right in one sense. Widespread legalized sports gambling went a long way to saving the NFL. Without it, many writers have speculated it would not be as popular.
