Nick Saban’s recruiting pitch

Can you sum up what he said? Audio was not the best

Wonder if Saban is gonna see this and call the kid out and have a problem with it but he is right and there’s no doubt as to why he gets the best players. It’s all about the draft

He talked about the quality of academics 0% of the time and about the # of Bama players in the NFL, etc.

I noticed that pitch seemed to be 100% football-centered.

I would think Dino could put together one heck of a pitch. The guy is so passionate and we all know from his recorded locker room video, can make you wanna run through a wall for him.
He keeps putting guys in the draft our recruiting will only get better and better.

It's a good pitch but I'd really want to hear a pitch from Saban from like 2010 or 2011 before Bama started dominating. Bama sells itself now they've been the best CFB program since 2012.

The guy is good.

About 4 years ago or so I talking with a head coach of a pretty high level high school football program who has a few former players in the NFL and guys getting recruited to P5’s each year. He told me Saban pretty much tells recruits “Every player who has joined my program and listened to me has won national championship and ended up on an NFL roster. But, you’re going to have to push yourself and work harder to a level more than you understand right now. I think you can do it but you have to decide if you’re built for that or not.”

Pretty cool to fast forward and see part of that pitch laid out in video.

He said “You’ll make more money coming to Alabama than going anywhere else. And when you’re good enough to consider declaring after year 3, you’ll still make more money playing for Alabama and so you can come back for a 4th year.”

What Saban has built at Alabama is incredible. He cranks out constant NFL 1st round draft picks and is now seen as a coach rehabilitator. Yes, he seems to have unlimited resources at his disposal but he has built a system that will continue to dominate CFB at least until he retires. It will be interesting to see if whoever eventually takes over from him can continue that.

While I am not a big fan of this as seeing the same few teams dominate every year gets boring but you have to give him credit for what he has created

Nothing shocking about the content of that video at this point. 1) they almost always make the playoffs / win championships 2) more NFLers than anyone else 3) they want kids not afraid of competition and the kid shouldn’t be afraid of competition since that’s the best way to get better.

Alabama’s pitch is pretty easy at this point.

To your third point, reminded me of another story I heard about how you get pushed not just physically but mentally in that program but it’s a brotherhood too. The culture there is crazy and if you’re not a dog you don’t make it.

Eddie Jackson was a 3 star recruit true freshman and in one on ones during practice was lined up against Amari Cooper. Cooper was cooking him. Saban said they had to go again and told Jackson you’re not done until you stop him. Cooper kept beating him and Jackson was getting frustrated and Saban yelled to him “if you want to quit then quit but I ain’t gonna bail your *ss out”. Finally Jackson got a stop and he was beating himself up and Haha Clinton-Dix came over and picked him up and said he went through it too and this is how you get better and all that. Fast forward a couple years and Jackson is an all everything safety and he’s the one pulling true freshman Ronnie Harrison aside and picking him up in training camp. And the cycle and process just keeps going.

What is “Alabama-speak” for Ohana?

Does Alabama really “produce” NFL players? Or do guys who are talented enough to go to the NFL just go there in larger numbers?

The disparity in recruiting is going to kill college football and b-ball if it keeps up IMO. Like women’s CBB...why bother caring, when UConn is going to win it all anyway?

I don't think we're quite as bad in college basketball yet, but the women's basketball is a good comparison.

Yeah - thankfully winning all the recruiting classes hasn’t translated to winning all the championships for Cal and K.

I watched basically none of the college football playoffs though. Same teams every year. I couldn’t have cared less.

If I was a parent of one of those kids I’d want to hear about the academics - or maybe rather the academic support to make sure my kid graduates. But that’s just me.
They have other people who do that. I am sure there was a separate Zoom that would introduce the player to his specific academic counselor, show the study halls, tell you about scheduling, etc.
My youngest son’s soccer recruitment (at a much lower level, but still D-1) involved all of that, as did my older son’s swimming recruiting visit to Stony Brook.
