Nick Saban’s recruiting pitch

He talked about the quality of academics 0% of the time and about the # of Bama players in the NFL, etc.

I mean... it was only 2 minutes of the total pitch and clearly chosen because it is his rebuttal to all the negative recruiting he could face.

Does Alabama really “produce” NFL players? Or do guys who are talented enough to go to the NFL just go there in larger numbers?

The disparity in recruiting is going to kill college football and b-ball if it keeps up IMO. Like women’s CBB...why bother caring, when UConn is going to win it all anyway?
This is a great question and one that could be relatively easily answered by an enterprising individual with a bit of stats background.

You could take all the 5 stars at Bama and track how many get drafted, then do the same for 4 stars.

Then do this for the next 10 schools that dominate getting 5 stars over the past 10 years.

Off the cuff, I bet Bama, and Clemson maybe OSU do more with more and Miami, Texas, Tenn, Florida, Auburn, FSU etc do less with more and OU, Georgia, aTm do about average... again, all ’star rankings’ being equal.

My thinking is to be elite, you must recruit well(4/5 stars), but to be the elite of the elite, you must both recruit and develop

I mean it's a nice pitch and all but I can't completely overlook THE DEAL HE MADE WITH SATAN

Also #hottake - Saban, for all his winning at the college level, is one of the biggest cowards in sports, and Alabama's continued success reinforces his cowardice. He made the right decision to test himself at the professional level, but got his feelings hurt when he realized that coaches are second in the NFL to QBs and his skill in skewing talent to his roster is completely irrelevant given a salary cap. So like a coward, rather than innovate within a new system that was far more challenging, he tucked his tail between his legs and went back to the college game where he could make it easier on himself. Like a coward.

I'll see you in Hell, Saban. To your credit, it's rare I battle on someone else's homecourt.

I am starting to think Satan is the one who made the deal with Saban

You know, given Saban’s reputation for rehabilitating characters with checkered pasts

No idea what Georgetownvoice is but I googled this just now because I was curious and found this. Bama and Clemson have the highest percentage of their 5 stars that get drafted but Bama has the highest percentage of 5 stars that get drafted in the top 50 picks then surprisingly it’s Notre Dame. They have a pretty good chart in there breaking it all down with other data too.

Yeah - thankfully winning all the recruiting classes hasn’t translated to winning all the championships for Cal and K.

I watched basically none of the college football playoffs though. Same teams every year. I couldn’t have cared less.
I watched b/c of Clemson and I wanted to see Ohio State get beat after getting in playing an exhibition season. Otherwise I could care less. Had it not been for Clemson, I probably wouldn't have watched at all.

Sign of a 1-10 program, wrap ourselves in the shroud of academics.
Bingo. Come to Syracuse, after you get your head kicked in for 4 years you can look at your diploma from the number one party school in the country. Go orange

A lot of people agreed with you. Having it late on a Monday night didn't help their ratings any either.
