Nick Williams to FSU

yea I'm not sure how close some of the newer signees were to Nick vs. Fran. Fran is involved in recruiting most of those guys which helps. Plus technically they can't transfer for a year after signing unless they get a release from the school they signed with (if I read the rules right).
I wondered how that worked in this crazy day and age.

Williams is a good recruiter but these kids keep saying they are coming for Fran. Not one of them mentioned ERob or Williams.
Fran believes he can out recruit for players. Now he is realizing he needs the x and o coaches to make it work.
Still wonder if there may be some movement on the O side for coaches moving on.

It’s ironic that people say ERob and Nick aren’t good enough for SU, but can get hired by LSU and Florida St. Do you think they might just be jumping ship?

It seems like recruits speak very highly of coaches who are on the support staff. They seem to be all over Florida. It sounds like they are making all kinds of connections with recruits, though Erob and Nick will be missed on the recruiting front.

Are you aware of the differences in resources at those schools versus us?
I don’t doubt that. My point was people were saying SU got rid of these two guys because they weren’t good enough, but LSU and FSU want them. Two of the biggest brands in college football seem to think otherwise.

hoopsupstate is a football troll, every post I have seen from him is condescending. No one jumping ship bud, we just got a great hire at DC that wants his guys. Toledo can coach, up 3 stars very well, but Fran will get even more talented guys for his Defense.

Neither were let go, as I understand it. ERob was demoted and hired at the position of his demotion. If LSU had hired him as a DC, then I could see that being an issue. For ERob/Williams (edit), if they can make X as DL coach at Syracuse and 2X at FSU/LSU as DL coach, the choice is pretty easy...

This is a big loss for us.

I wish Coach Williams well in all he does. Stand-up guy and a great coach.

We also don't know how good the replacements will be at recruiting. Maybe there isn't a catastrophic drop-off.
Two types of recruiters. Ones that brings in talent. Onse that can identify talent by film and conversation. If we have guys who can find they guys that fit the scheme, Fran can do the heavy lifting

I think we are seeing the ship getting balanced form recruiting coach heavy to a balance of veteran coaches and "recruiting" coaches
As PAcuse is saying, I think the moves they are making is to balance out the staff from the "recruiting" coaches heavy approach we had in place. ERob for what he will be doing at LSU and for what Nick will be doing at FSU are great hires for those schools. Now there is a reason neither Nick or ERob were fired and that's if they wanted to stay on to help more with the recruiting operation they were allowed to do so. Now I'm sure they did jump ship technically, but Fran personally handed them life vests on the way out.

Two words, Coach Cignetti

I think it's shocking that he's not already. Go from beating Bama to 5-7 with a humiliating loss to Florida to end it?

They didn't want egg on their face I guess after saying they're keeping him. Or just couldn't afford the buyout. But I can see him being the first midseason firing next year. If they're not the one team that gets the 8 game ACC schedule, they will have @ Alabama and Florida as 2 of their 3 OOC games.
It's most likely a money thing. AD Alford has been spending like crazy and gave Norvell the golden parachute, add to that FSU'S financial wores and the BoT nixed any talk of replacing Norvell this year. Amazingly, if FSU managed their money well, they would be in great shape and could have canned Norvell. Regardless, they would not have gotten who they want this fall, too many big dogs with money were shopping for the golden ticket HC.

Expound what do you mean?
I mean that I think the original question was silly, given all the discussion that has occurred in this thread and elsewhere, and a one word answer would suffice.

New DC is going to be a thousand times what ERob was in that capacity and if he wants his own guys on staff, I'd send Superman packing to make room.

Yeah, losing both Robinson and Nick Will could make some DL guys a bit uneasy. Hopefully they see what we have replaced them with at DC and wait to see what we bring in for a DL coach. Also there is a huge opportunity for playing time in front of them. I'd think we should be able to retain what we have, as its all young unexperienced talent looking for an opportunity.
As Fran has said before, he will be here and asst may not be. Come to SU for him not asst.

Not to sound like an FSU apologist, because I'm not and I hate them, buuut they are a lot closer to turning things around then we are after what we saw this year. Castellanos is a terrible P4 QB. They were always going to be limited by him. If they get an actual good QB this year they will have more success. They are stacked, always are.

With that said, Norvell is also an average coach and shouldn't be there any more. But they beat a playoff team this year and our best win was a 7-5 Clemson.
We beat Clemson up. We out physicalled them and should be 9-3 at least.

I’m mad because i loved the energy and recruiting Nick brought to SU. I’m a little confused about wanting some world class DE coach over a high-end recruiter that the players love? We have Dwight Freeney working with the team part-time for a reminder. I don’t care how good or bad a coach you are, nobody is doing anything with the talent we just had. Now we have some in the pipeline, but certain position coaches need to be recruiters. i would qualify DE coach as one of them.

Make sure you’re OC, DC, QB, OL, ST coaches are on point and load the rest up with recruiters . Fran takes care of corners himself.

Having Dwight as an advisor and the ends being as bad as they were, means the other coaches were apparently not up to teaching.
