Down in D.C. producing the World Basketball Festival - have seen a lot of Team USA and Jimmy over the past few days and got to see some top targets today in the Global Challenge as well.
Saw most of Canada vs. USA today and was really impressed with Ennis. Great poise and control with the rock and and had a few solid mid-range jumpers as well. Just always seems to be in control whether in a crowd in transition or in the half-court. Started the game off with a 25 foot 3 as well. Wiggins started slow but then came on strong. Makes it look really, really easy offensively sometimes. He's the type of guy who can be at the top of the key and a split second/two steps later he's at the rim for an easy finish. Caught a quick glimpse of Anya and Rondae Jefferson in the other game but didn't get to watch too much. Anya looks biiig and not in the good way.
It was a who's who of coaches here today. Saw Pastner, John Thompson Jr. + Sr., Matta, Ben Howland, Sean Miller, Leonard Hamilton, Stan Heath, and assistants from UNC, Louisville, Baylor, Illinois, Mich. St, Duke, Bama, Arkansas, Gonzaga, Rutgers, Mizzou and a bunch I'm probably forgetting. Most importantly Coach Red was here checking out the scene. Saw him getting a lot of love from fans.
Had a few funny moments with Team USA as well. Was briefing LeBron on a dunk contest today and he didn't open his eyes the entire time. He had a huge party in D.C. last night. Deron Williams was leaving the court and kids kept shouting "Duh-ron! Duh-ron!" and he stops cold and looks at them and goes "Deron."
They had something called the 'City Challenge' with the "best" ball players from major cities (aka washed up ball players) and Kenny Satterfield and Marcus Williams were both playing.
Edit: Forgot to add that Kuran Iverson played very well also. Showed a solid mid-range game offensively and just looks like the protypical Cuse forward. Reminded me of Jerami Grant a bit.
