Almost all of those people work for a living. Don’t see any oil, sneaker, or IT barons there. There’s doing well and then there is millions are pocket change.

Not sure but I think you have an underestimate of what some of those people’s salary might be.

Actually I’m not. That’s the point, people collecting salaries aren’t NIL whales.
Umm maybe you have a different definition of whale then I do, but the guy who is the ceo of MetLife is knocking down about 20 million + a year, and isn’t the wealthiest dude on the list. Lenders Bagels sold for half a Billion dollars when that guy was in charge, David Falk is worth 100 million if not more. If those are not Whales in your mind then Salute. But they have More then enough to buy a QB if they wanted So maybe by the literal sense of the word they are working but so is Elon.

Do you know how much Falk has donated to have his name on the Falk School? I don't think NIL is something he has any interest in.

These are people that are probably donating huge amounts to the actual university and don't care about SU Athletics.

Glad to see so many alumni being very successful. Not sure in light of the recent events I would even want my name out there. Franky, I love the sports programs. How many of the people on the list are willing to fork over seven figures to teenagers when they can put the same money into an academic program if they are inclined to donate. I am willing to bet most of the people on the list would rather give to academics than to sports. I remember Mr. Lender and his wife gave a very generous, five million dollar, donation to SU for social justice causes a few years ago. Probably a better use of funds that a couple of power forwards and a point guard who could leave in a year or two anyway.

How many oil barons are there in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida or Tennessee.

As much as I love my dog I think I need to update my avatar to this:

This is a major "problem*" with how long football and now basketball have been from being relevant. I'm sure there are plenty of successful Syracuse grads from this century that had no connection to the football team because they stunk for their entire time on the hill so they never went.

*By problem I mean it's not really a problem at all for people to donate money to educational facilities rather than funding a multi billion dollar entertainment business from their own pocket. This entire thing is ridiculous.

Yeah, they’ve got the wrong idea! ;)

To me, this is the issue in a nutshell. I could give to some NIL collective (I have but modestly) because I love SU sports, or I could give the same money to a soup kitchen, Salvation Army, or even just some scholarship fund on campus. To me, the decision’s still a no brainer.

Happy to see Coach Fran has the players giving back to the community. Makes paying players more palatable.

Edit: I’m not a whale. ;)

MTV is NOT doing well, and Lucent is no more. Alcatel bought them, and then Nokia bought Bell Labs.

I'm seeing a lot of cogs in the wheel and not a lot of wheel builders... Not many of these names are making the obscenely big bucks. We have a VP of government and international relationships and Director of public relations on our top alumni list... While impressive for sure, that doesn't exactly scream "i'll donate $2M a year for sports"

There's a lot of concentrated multi-generational wealth there. Families making money since before the Civil War.

Go was talking about tycoons and oil money. There’s a lot of wealth and old money in New York too, which has the most billionaires in the world. NIL doesn’t need to live off alum donors though, which I know the NY billionaires are not. But you don’t need oil money to donate to NIL funds.

You basically need to find 20 people to donate 20 million and that would get you thru the next 10+ years give or take living off the interest.

Pretty good chance the system looks different in the next years anyway
