No great senior leadership again

A little premature to dismiss the entire team and who evolves as team leaders. I think those leaders emerge during winter workouts and spring practice. Just for fun, here is one name - Rashard Perry.
Was thinking same thing. Mack too. Angelli? Clement? Also the safety that got hurt early from Buffalo. Does he get another year from injury Grant?

And leaders aren't always the stars. Franklin was a captain for the Colts when he was a special teamer. There could be guys we haven't heard of that will be leaders next year, and nobody outside the locker room will know it.

My point is and always has been if we don’t know who the 4th and 5th year senior leaders are right now then you probably don’t have that special core unlike 2012,18, 24.

Everyone has been saying 2026, but I’ve been saying 2030. I know a pattern when I see one.

What do you mean?

Every player is on a one year contract. We absolutely have to rebuild each and every year. We can't rebuild for the year after next because we don't who will be on the team. We have to be ready next year not the year after.

We have no idea who is going to step up to be leaders. Every year players graduate and others step up.
Angeli is a leader you saw it every interview and on the field. Never thought Ricky was a leader. I suspect there will be a number of leaders on this team. They may not all be seniors but you can see potential leaders in a number of players.
Concerning record. Yes last season was a dumpster fire and it was very disappointing Nixon would not change the O. However we have no idea how next season goes. We have no idea with the portal, freshman or who takes a step up. We don’t know the new coaches Impact or what other teams will be like. Like all things we will have to wait and see and trust Fran learned from this season.

Ugh, here we go again. Does anyone think that Fran isn't gearing up for a run in 2026? He demoted (fired) his best friend. He knows 2026 has to be special. He is going to kill it in the portal and we are going to have a HUGE bounceback year in 2026.

I understand your point. My point is that yours is not necessarily accurate. We aren't in the locker room. We're not in the coaches offices. Fans won't always know who the leaders are when they aren't the stars of the team. It doesn't mean they aren't there, and there is no reason they can't be something other than seniors. A third year guy can lead just as well as a fourth or fifth year guy. Our special core in '24 included guys that weren't on the team in '23. Who knew Meeks was going to be one?

And he fits an attacking defense better then just try to contain your man of the past 2 years.

And we will again next year and the year after and the year after...

That is what we are as a program. We are looking at 7-5 as the typical season. Every year is next year is our year. If things break right we can go 9-3. If things break wrong we can go 5-7.

Who “stepped up “this year? I don’t think this is as easy as many think it is or as coach’s like to tell you it is

That's probably closer to reality than we like. But we can't change it. There will always be "too much going on." That's the reality of college football now. The only semblance of stability is the head coach, and he better have a plan to retool annually. Things broke right in '24 with "too much going on" and maybe they will next year too. The thing is, if we have to plan for 2 years out, we'll always be planning for 2 years out. After next season, there will be reasons to find without looking all that hard for why 2027 won't be the year, but 2028 will.

2024 we had a bunch of SRs and a favorable schedule. We need those IMO to have a breakthrough season. Neither of those are true next year. They can be in 27.

A number of the seniors that were leading the team were 1 year trsfs. A number of other impact guys were younger. We need to see who comes via the portal before we know anything.

We had a few SR adds but we also had LQA, Gadsden, Reed, Bradford, Petry, Barron, Wax, Clark. Plus a bunch of JRs too.

LQA was a Jr.

As I said earlier, guys don't have to be seniors to be leaders. Who's to say Tremble won't be a leader as a junior. Maybe Deslauriers will be one as a sophomore.

I really don't understand why fans worry about the things we can't possibly know. We have no idea who the leaders are on a team without being in the lockeroom. Sure, there are big name guys that are leaders, but there are also guys that lead but simply aren't talented enough to be the guys we hear about. The players and coaches know who those guys are. Maybe "team leaders" is something we've heard talking heads discuss way too much, so we latch on to it too.

Are people really saying we don't have a core of impact players (production wise) returning? That's something we can see and is worth discussing.
