Maybe. I guess it makes sense to try and place it close to North Carolina.

But given the late notice, I would think the NCAA would want to work with a venue they have used a number of times in the past, that knows what is expected, has the expertise and has proven themselves in the past. Preferably one with a strong history supporting basketball too.

Not sure any of the places you mention qualify fully. The biggest problem Syracuse has going against it is that Buffalo has already been named as a venue for 2017. Having two venues so close together might make the attendance at both venues a lot lower than expected.

Though I will bet Syracuse will be assigned to Buffalo and sell it out.

The question is, how many people in CNY will buy tickets to watch games at the Dome when the big team is 2 hours down the road?

Supposedly the revamped Coliseum will hold 13,500 for hoops.

The 2016 tournament had games in Spokane (12,000+ seats) and Providence (also 12,000+ seats).

The 2015 tournament had games in Jacksonville (14,000 seats).

So the Nassau Coliseum should be big enough. With MSG, Barclays, Prudential Center and Nassau able to host tournament games, maybe the NYC metro area can be used by SU the way Duke has used the state of North Carolina for their tourney games.
