No NIT for UNC

Personally, I think avoiding the NIT makes you look much worse than playing in the NIT.

It doesn't prove that the NIT is "unacceptable" for the program.
It can be unacceptable result, but you still play.
You come off worse after declining it.
 
Not sure why anyone cares. Maybe there guys said they wouldn’t play in the NIT they were going pro? Not sure why it’s a big deal (edited from story)

Let me rephrase, not sure why it’s a big deal. Players are sitting out of bowl games left and right these days not to get injured. No idea if that is the case here. But you go from the championship game to playing in the NIT? Not like they have a young team that needs more games and practice. There top 6 guys are all Juniors and Seniors.

I wouldn’t say it’s a big deal.

but it is a story. And i would assume you are dead on that the older guys going pro didn’t want to get hurt in the NIT and/or their NIL deals didn’t cover the NIT.

reason I called it a clown show was the statement. clearly Davis is not in control over there
 
Got an idea- Give winner of the NIT an automatic bid to next year’s NCAA Tournament.
NIT hasn’t been interesting since the early seventies. Pretty sure nobody turns down an invite if something like that is on the line.

Normally I’d think a school would get NCAA payback for this since they own the tournament but as we’ve seen the Tar Heels have nothing to fear from the NCAA

Idk I just saw 3 people bash them immediately like they are too good for the NIT. I just shrug my shoulders. It’s not the first time and it’s not the last time a team will bow out of the NIT. 2 years ago, 6 teams said no thank you.

That was still when you had to wear masks and couldn’t leave your hotel room though. Wouldn’t have blamed anyone for skipping out back then. Times were weird.

It’s funny. I said last year he was a terrible coach and a terrible hire. Then he rolled to the championship game and I was shocked and started to give him a lot of credit. I was eating that crow. In reality, Bacot just went beast mode.

This year he turned back into the coach I thought he was when he was hired. But that championship game appearance probably bought him an extra year or 2 down the line. Good for us.

Yes, but they would have played in the NCAA tournament if they were invited. The NIT was in a bubble in Texas. COVID was an easy excuse to use. But again. Even COVID was not the only time a team has denied an NIT invite. Not to mention, teams that have said they would not accept an invite if they don’t make the tournament only to make the tournament.

Their local fanbase down there isn’t a whole lot different than ours. Large, loyal, and passionate - with a fanbase that large you’ll get a lot of jackasses, but overall theres a ton of knowledgeable and good fans. Way better than the Duke and NC State people, IMO,

However their “never been to NC in their lives” national fanbase people that we deal with up here….they absolutely suck.

NCAA tournament means a championship is on the line. Of course you go. Just like many traveled for weddings and other important stuff.

But when it’s something that really isn’t that important….it was probably just easier to stay home at the time. The NIT really isn’t that important - but in normal times you go and make the best of it. In weird times - if you really want to, go for it. But if you don’t, I don’t see how you can really be blamed.
 
I wont kill UNC. Syracuse telegraphed they wouldnt consider the CBI last year before the bids.
