Gillon does. He just never makes them. The rest of the guys can finish above the rim (not that they do finish) and generally go up with two hands. If you're looking for big men who can finish over either shoulder, we haven't had that here since... Onuaku?

Battle's drives and his attempts to score on them look the same to me every time. I think in highschool he was slashing past defenders doing that but not on this level so he is struggling to put them in. At least last knight he drew fouls and converted. It just doesn't look like there is any diversity in his driving game. He doesn't really hesitate, go at different speeds or even change direction.

All that said he had a pretty good game last night and continues to impress me as a catch and shoot guy. He also had one very nice pass when he drove the lane. It was a bounce pass which none of our guards do enough of IMO.

It seems like so many players these days are taught to draw contact, but then don't try to finish through it. As soon as they get fouled, they just chuck it up instead of trying to absorb the contact, go to an off-hand if needed (or angle their body/alter their shot), and still finish...

Not enough players work on the fundamentals anymore. My son was able to drive to the basket and score with both hands as a 5th grader, but it was a lot of time with a coach who made him work his weak hand. There are so many players who get by on shear athleticism and height that they never work on the little things. The little things are what make the difference between seeing the floor (TT) and riding the pine (Robe).

In my younger days, I would practice each shot in my repertoire right then left then right then left, etc. and let my right hand teach my left how to do it until it felt natural. Nobody takes the time to do that anymore.

I remember reading about Billy Owens shooting 3's after practice lefty - and nailing most of them.

Of course, JB woulda killed him if he ever tried an off-hand 3 in a game, but you know how JB do.
