Current search:

In a single game, from 2000 to 2019, playing for Syracuse, requiring Rushing Yards >= 258 and Passing Yards >= 287 and Points >= 52, sorted by descending Passing Touchdowns

URI was the only other one in 2002

Lester has had Passing Yards >= 356, Rushing Yards >= 201 and Points >= 33 two years in a row and lost both

There are only 8 games like since the beginning of last season, WMU has two of them

So greatest offensive output against a FBS team in 2 decades yet Lester's offense outgained Dino's offense by 12 yards. Serious work needs to be done on the defensive side of the ball. I'm ok with the way the offense is starting to show life. The injures and inexperience help to explain prior futility. But our defense right now simply stinks and was supposed to be a strength of this team.

the defense will never be a strength. we need to outscore people and hope that turnovers aren't luck (this is where the narrator interjects that it's luck. we spend our money on a smart offense so that's what we get. best i hope for is some year with a great offense and we luck out with a defense that isn't bad

Well it shouldn't be a weakness and this year it is. I don't buy this mutually exclusive great offense = no defense mindset. VT had both all the way back in the 00's and they weren't a Bama/Clemson back then. No reason we can't get rid of Ward and find somebody who knows how to keep a team under 500 yards.

i think its still players more than scheme on D.. you can scheme plays on offense to a point, far harder to scheme to cover players on D.

even alabama has some issues once they injuries to knock dept back a bit. For all their DBs if they have a normal Dline of guys they struggle like everyone else.

sure, if you go back twenty years when almost everyone was still stupid on offense and find the fastest qb of all time in a bad conference, you can have both

yes, this is why i'm so thrilled to putting our resources towards a good offensive scheme. more bang for the buck there.

250 rushing in a game where we really didnt run that well but we have 4-5 really nice runs.

quantity over quality - 47 "rushes" (not sure how many sacks off the top of my head)

Wake is currently ranked 11th overall on offense and 59th on defense. That would be acceptable. I'm not asking for the world. Just not 2nd to last.

yeah, i wouldn't call 59th a strength though. besides if they stay ranked there, they might win 12 games, that's a hell of a lot more than acceptable

The Pitt game in 2016 comes close to meeting the specifications above - 440 passing yards and 228 running yards and 61 points.

I don't know how to run queries on this site but I'd bet my Emmy award that, since 2000, SU has scored over 50 points less than ten times total.
I know for sure that there have been a bunch of years in which they haven't scored 50 points in a single game.

Maybe this will turn around with the Dino and TD show but Syracuse is not a high powered offense.

I’ll take that bet all day.

5 of them were in last season alone

Personally, I think the defense is showing its signs of its own improvement. We were missing two starters last week vs. WMU: Cisco and Iffy. Not insignificant. And I know this is blasphemy, but I just don't see "it" for Cordy, who is instantaneously seen as the weak link by opposing OCs. I thought Scoop Bradshaw played well last week and should he ahead of Cordy on the depth chart at corner. I suspect Dino sees Cordy as an emotional leader on the defense, and can respect that.

Another thing I don't like is we are wasting the size and speed of Tyrell Richards. I am perplexed by this. He's a non-factor so far.

SMALL SAMPLES ALERT
Many mentioned that we were due for some regression on turnovers created, but we are hanging in there:
2018: 31 turnovers created (18 INTs, 13 fumbles) ... 13 games
2019: 11 turnovers created (6 INTs, 5 fumbles) ... 1/3 of season

That said, we are struggling compared to last year's near elite third- and fourth-down conversions on defense, but you almost had to expect that last year's figures were unsustainable:
2018: 67-221 (30.3%)
2019: 27-67 (40.3%)

Lastly, penalties are really up. This has me most worried. Might be attributable to an extra OL holding call per half. I have a hunch this will improve a smidgen the last 8 games.
2018: 59.08 yds/game
2019: 77.75 yds/game
