I agree it does help he has a friend at SU that can give information to him first hand and not through the press or what recruiters are saying.

There are good students like Knight and you're right, he'd do well pretty much wherever he'd go. Or Wall, these kids had tryouts as well during their short stays, how did they come out this so well?
 
Why do athletes from the SEC in general do well academically? My theory is institutional buy in. The professors who support the athletes and the athletic program find a way to have them in their classes. No-one has ultimate control over a student's academic work in a class as each professor, and UK basketball is a way of life. At SU the professors in general could care less whether they have an athlete, don't go to class, don't pass. Just my theory.
 
Hey, just so we're clear, I have no evidence either way; in fact, most of the stuff we've read here is positive on Noel. I'm going merely off the fact that Kentucky usually lands the stud recruits. That's all. (And maybe I am trying to keep my expectations down as well). But I'm just saying, if on one hand you have Jake making the optimistic posts he has, and me saying I think he's going to UK, I would definitely put more stock in what Jake is saying.

I just hope that if Noel choose to go somewhere else, we don't turn on the kid. Maybe he goes to Kentucky because they pay him, or maybe he goes there because he'd just rather play there. We're not the perfect school, and it's totally reasonable if a kid would rather play somewhere else.

It's maybe just my opinion but the money cart drives the SEC horse and the profs know their place in the order of things down there. Except for Vandy.

I agree, it's his life and he has to pick where he wants to spend his academic career if it's one year or more.

I think SU is the odds on favorite. I have tried to place myself in his shoes and determine where I would want to go. The freinds, location, coaching, all are in SUs favor. Plus having to replace A Davis at UK has to be a real problem. If he puts up 10 and 8 with a great defensive presence, he has done well here and is a failure at UK.

My concerns are two fold:
1. I don't think he is as good as hyped. Expectations have gotten out of hand. I think his O is raw. He can do decently but people may think he has underperformed. He may be more like Rak than A Davis. I think the 10 and 8 above are his ceiling for a frosh year - I think that is what he is putting up in high school.
2. I don't know how DC2 and Noel will work. They both look like centers to me. Then you have Rak in the mix, where his best position seems to be in the middle also. What a logjam in the middle. One of them needs to put in minutes at the PF but right now I don't think it suits any of them. The best predicted front line for next year would have CJ, Dirty, and only one of those three. Can/will 2 McDs bigs be able to ride the bench?

No doubt Noel would be a great get. Part of it is just the publicity from attracting such a sought after talent. But there will be things for JB to work out. And there can be a small down side as a perception to not be able to develop NBA talent.

For me, I'm still riding the high of getting DC2. I thought that was huge. His AO role is well defined in JBs system. I know he's considered yesterdays news though.

SEC football brings in the $$ down south. Professors probably understand that a good portion of their paychecks come from this. Good recruits + players in good academic standing = Good football = more revenue = happy professors :noidea:
 
I'm assuming he's going to DePaul until I hear differently.

Nobody likes layoffs and look at Rutgers, they're laying off profs due to having no cash and spending way more than they have on football facilities. Plus, the more fans you have among the faculty and add low scruples/agendas and you have a nice SEC mix.
 
Take it FWIW but Evan Daniels' only comment from today was that he thinks GTown is in there closer than people think.

I think our chances all hinge on the in home visit. JB and Hop have to win over NN's mom and convince her that SU is not the hot bed of sin the scandal reporting has painted us. If they can convince her that SU wil be a good experience for her son then we get him. I think he prefers SU. Don't count out GTown. The Thompsons can be very persuasive and they do have a good track record. By other accounts, his mom was impressed with the talk she had with JT3.

Great post. Those are some of the things that I've wondered about as well.
 
Fab has academic problems, it becomes pretty obvious he will not be back and "Boom goes the dynomite" Noel reclassifies. I've really liked our chances since that happened. I like them even more taday after Noel has gone on an official to Gtown and had an inhome with Cal and is yet to commit while we get the last in home.

We may see how JB does in more of the Phil Jackson role. He may have quite a stock of McDs in the cupboard, and several at the same position.

His approach so far seems mixed. He has recently given some playing time but then seems like he can be a little cold when PT doesn't fit his purposes. Many were feeling bad for Rak before the big turn. And MCW has had his moments of frustration but seems to have now accepted his role.

Every team has its own unique challenge. I think JB will enjoy this one - how do you keep all the McDs semi-happy.

Would Noel want to fit in to the Princeton Offense though? If he goes to Georgetown he's going to have to be the high post distributor, and from what I've heard about him, that doesn't seem like something he's going to buy into. If he comes to here (or UK), he could be featured, especially if his offensive game comes along. People can knock how we've used Fab and Rak offensively, but go back and look at film from 09-10. We probably started 80-90% of games by giving it to AO on the block and running our offense through him.
 
Georgetown should not be counted out by any means.
As I mentioned in another post, NN gushed about their use of Bigs in JTIII's offense & the whole "Big Man U" thingy. And the subtle issue of race is significant, and shouldn't be underestimated.
Imagine JTII & III sitting his parents down & talking about Ewing (another West Indian kid) & the trials & tribulations he had in college. The whole "we'll look out for him, we know what it can be like for a young (black/WI) kid at this institution", might've been very persuasive to the mother.
I think its us & the Hoyas...what else is new? :noidea:
