Class of 2015 Not to be a grinch but are we killing it or are we

I'm totally okay with taking some NJ kids that aren't getting a lot of attention. Anything to help build relationships over there.

Im not, but we've had success with some of those guys in the past. The NJ guys were after this year appear to be known commodities though. If were taking lessor recruited kids I'd rather they be from lighter recruited areas like NY, and NE. We've moved past the point of getting second tier guys shipped to us by NJ coaches. The program, and the coaches will sell themselves. Landing a higher profile kid from Bosco is a huge move because that means the kid wants to be at Cuse despite all outside influences. We don't need their fringe players and would rather uncover another stud athlete on a bad team like Spruill instead.

Well we certainly have examples of kids last cycle we had to fight till the end for Ward, Slayton, Ishmael just off the top of my head. Yes it's true Ward and Ishmael weren't officially ours, but everybody understood they would be ours in time, especially Ishmael.

Then there are kids like Jonathon Thomas who by all accounts would be high major guys (smitten with Oklahoma) but due to potential grade issues, they didn't take him, thus opening a spot for us in his heart. He was an A-list talent kid, but with questionable grades.

Every situation is different. We definitely took some B-list kids last cycle no doubt, but everybody does. The key is getting the majority of the guys you want, and right now we can definitely say we are landing the kids we want. They just all seem to be RBs, CBs or OL right now.
I agree. and Im not worried about offers right now. When I watch Byrne and Clausman's film I see two very good lineman. I watched their film and compared them to Steven Gonzales and Sam Madden, both jersey kids with multiple BCS offers. I thought our commits film looked better. Madden's competition wasnt good. He pushed around kids who were half his size. He is also slow on his feet and will need to lose weight. Im impressed with the STA's linemans because they are sucessful agaisnt great competition. Part of that competition they go against are right on their team. Hart and Ray are two BCS DE's with multiple offers.

Good point about the competition on their own team, most people don't think about that when talking about recruiting and talent level.

This is probably why Mackey turned into a good Center, he was forced to by going against Bromley, Crume, Raymon and Zian Jones in practice.

What's everyone else missing on the STA kids?

Funny, last year at this time we had a lot of complainers because of the lack of commitments - those guys haven't been around yet...

Last year, in late July, we did not have much going for us (few visits, not much response to many offers staff put out). Some were claiming the staff was choosing not to land June-July commits.
We are moving up the food chain a notch or two (measured by interest in our program), we are competing in NJ, and will be able to fill half the class or more (14?) by the end of July.
Quality -- I like the RBs, DBs and the DE.

This is going to get better and better as the staff keeps on building these relationships with the players and coaches. If this goes as well as I think it will SU HAS to pay these guys well enough to stay unless it is to leave for a HC position somewhere.

We're crushing it in recruiting.

Most of the kids that have committed hold impressive offers. Several of the big-time schools will be trying to poach come fall/winter... guaranteed. We're in on some of these kids early.

Im not sure why they dont have more offers but I know they will be plenty of teams coming in throughout and after the season. STA will play a national schedule and will most likely be on TV. Coaches will be watching them. Lets hope they stay committed after that.

I can already see a few of our recruits blowing up as the summer goes on... Levine, Strickland (even more so), Robinson, Spence, Conway, Clausmen and probably Perkins too.

I feel like our formula for success is to selectively bring in a handful of two star players that we feel are diamonds in the rough, snag a couple of 4 star or really high end 3 star players where we can, and have the bulk of the class be 3 star talent - ESPECIALLY on the O and D lines. If that's how our class looks I take it to mean we're finding guys that fit and are being selective, but the majority of our incoming players are guys that other programs think are good too.

Based on that expectation, I think this class is shaping up nicely.
